I don't judge.
Those early bird drinkers are usually asleep by 7pm, so it's all a wash.

I love going somewhere with a lot of loyal regulars and watching them all come by in shifts throughout the day. Morning regulars, midday regulars, PM regulars.
The other day I spent a few hours at George's, and this man who clearly comes in daily came in, got a vodka and olive juice on the rocks, got a shot of Rumple Minze, then went home. No food or other drinks. I was impressed. You don't really see older folks drinking Rumple.

Back in my biggest stage of being an alcoholic my liquor store absolutely knew me and what i was all about. I was in there twice a week buying a handle of Evan Williams 100proof

That is very true. But in terms of alcoholics, young people with alcohol problems are very different from the 30-40 somethings who descend into it. The college students were usually sober until the evening started and they were usually falling down on a regular basis.
The more "mature" alcoholics were a sneaky bunch. They would come into the bar with a head start and then look like they were pacing themselves, but periodically they would take a big gulp to finish off that double mixed drink....or after 3 hours you the bartender realize that they've polished off at least 15 beers and a few straight shots.....and they do this 3-4 times a week.

If you don't pick up on that quick, you don't belong behind a bar serving drinks or a counter selling liquor.
The good thing about working in a liquor store is the customer leaves once the liquor is purchased and not sitting in the place consuming it.

Back in my drinking days, I would drive all over town to hit up different groceries stores to buy my booze b/c I went quite often and didn't want the folks at my nearby stores to know the true frequency of my alcohol purchases.
Glad those days are behind me.

I totally did that when I lived in Louisiana.Then I moved to L.A. and there's 40 bazillion liquor stores. Then I got tired of all the BS and said frick it and just went to the one down the street exclusively. There was a younger dude that worked there and was always playing old school alternative music. While I checked out, we'd shoot the shite for a minute or two damn near every day for years. Then one day I couldn't do it anymore. I was exhausted and broken. That was a year and a half ago. I've only been back to that store once or twice, probably to buy a Powerball ticket. The young guy was working and was surprised as hell to see me. He asked where I had been. I said I kicked the booze for good. He was happy to hear that. He thought I was dead.

I only sit outside if it's there is a Saints game I want to catch at the bar opens at noon. Other than that I think it's trashy to show up before noon to booze away the afternoon.

The customers who ordered Rumpleminze.
At my first bartending job, we had a regular who would take at minimum 3-4 double rumple shots a night while drinking beer and chain smoking. Some nights he’d ask for Rumple on the rocks. $20 cash tip every round, and I never saw him stumble or slur a word. I’m pretty sure he owned a strip club because he’d always bring in trashy looking broads. I hope he’s doing ok.

There was an older heavy set Irishman with long gray hair who would come sit at the bar around lunch time, order food, and drink 22oz Shiner drafts. Bright red in the face. He’d show no signs of intoxication through his first 2 beers. He’d finish his lunch and order a 3rd beer, and that’s when he’d become incoherent. He’d try to chat but it would be mumbles, and he’d laugh and say “Eh? Eh? Hahaha” as if I could understand wtf he was saying. Felt bad for the dude. He’d always pay out and leave before having more than 3 beers.
