I love how people discuss it like it's a regular phenomenon.

I'd be genuinely surprised if more than 25% of this board was alive for the last total eclipse in 1979.

I was a young lad and watched it. My young self thought it was pretty cool.

Guy on TWC says the best place to watch the eclipse is in a National Park in the path of the eclipse.

Just in case you guys didn't know that.

It's pretty significant if you are in the path of totality.

Aren't there like 100 million people within the 90% path or something?

It should be a pretty big deal for a bunch of folks

run to harbor freight and get some cheap welding googles and you will be good to go or just go buy a welding shield which will probably cost you as much as black market eclipse glasses

We gave an office in Columbia SC, we are getting word to not expect any shipments from that warehouse to get delivered tomorrow due to inability to move thru the city for Fed Ex

That is baffling

Saw some video clips of the traffic at some of the western national parks, it looks miserable

Honestly...it's neat. No reason to feel the need to act like this isn't a cool thing to witness.

For me though, the point I'm trying to make to my sons is just how cool it is that we (humans, not me specifically) understand the movement of the solar system SO WELL that we can predict with absolute certainly that this is going to happen, where it will happen, and when. Not just this one, but far into the future...

This predictive nature of the sciences is important for people to understand.

Once you go there, you can illustrate that it's this ability to understand movements that enables us to send spacecraft to distant planets...just an incredible feat when you consider the speeds, distances, movements, etc.

Sometimes we take for granted what we "know" and how important that knowledge is.

Don't understand how people don't understand this is a huge piece of MAGA.

We were coming to Hilton Head from Florida yesterday. Traffic wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. Jumped off I-95 at Savannah to avoid some problems just north of there. My better half works at a car dealership that is giving away eclipse glasses. There's a huge line waiting to get them.
