I have never been so excited for anything in my life. I kept all of my kids out of school and drove to my MILs house in Alcoa, TN yesterday. We had an eclipse party last night and had 2 cakes. One was a moon cake and the other a sun cake. The younger kids played pin the moon on the sun. My son wrote a poem called "Baileys Beads" and read it for the family and I cried. I didn't sleep a wink last night and am periodically so nervous that I am on the cusp of hyperventilating at times. On one hand I want this feeling to never end but on the other I know it needs to happen soon as I can go back to a normal life.
this is an awesome post

I waited too late and not able to get the glasses. Looks like I'll be stuck inside. No way I risk walking out to my car for lunch and getting blinded.

The cities in the totality path are complete shitsshows. Massive traffic jams and people have booked up the hotels months ago. One friend is with his family camping in a huge field somewhere with over 500 other tents.

Roughly 50% of the US wasn't alive the last time a total solar eclipse was visible from the US mainland, and the last solar eclipse that was visible across the entire lower 48 was in 1918.

It's not exactly blowing it out of proportion for people to be excited about it.

There is a significant difference between 98% and totality.

True, but I'm stuck at work and can't make the 60 mile drive to northeast Georgia today.

I imagine there are going to be some of those cities that end up having a cloudy, overcast day. Or even rain all day. How much would that suck for these idiots.

We don't get to see a solar eclipse very often here in the US. Let us enjoy it.

2 frustrated parents, couped up in a small tent leaking rainwater, with 3 hopped up kids wearing eclipse glasses inside and bouncing off the tent walls, not being able to see......
