After seeing the thread on King Cakes, which prior to reading I didn't know existed, it dawned on me that there's a lot I don't know about Louisiana. I imagine there are others here who, like me, were drawn to the site because it's the best SEC forum on the net without having ever been to Louisiana aside from the odd trip to the Sugar Bowl.

So OT, what are some unique things about Louisiana that everyone should know?

you don't buy groceries, you MAKE groceries

I'm a texas carpet-bagger going on 5 years in NOLA and there's still a shitload I'm not real sure about

also people love having little virgin mary statues in their front yard.

We are a 3rd world country in comparison to most of the US. The only thing separating us from 3rd world status is 3rd world countries receive more money from the government.

Even if you went to Harvard, that’s not the answer to the question.

Bring an armored vehicle and a flak, kevlar, and all PPE when traveling in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Shreveport, or Monroe.

That’s a NOLA thing, not a Louisiana thing.

Louisianians will swear they're Conservatives and pledge allegiance to Trump, then turn around and vote for a lefty like John Bel because he goes to church.

The weather sucks. The infrastructure sucks. The government sucks. The taxes suck. The people are nice. The food is good.

It is odd that LA almost always goes red for national elections but we've had plenty of Democrat governors in my lifetime.

That's because the fake conservatives here are not conservative at all and love them some populism. Quick to vote republican for national offices but for more local, statewide offices they want their hand out. They won't ever admit this is true, but it is. Take the issue of TOPS as a perfect example.

It's not a place to raise a family unless you can afford expensive private schools.
