Some ATMs have an option for French language.

Gonna be honest with you, I’ve found that the coonasses in south Louisiana are fricking assholes of the highest order.

I mean they’re truly dickheads.
I don’t have a dog in the fight, but...

I’m not sure I would go that far, but they definitely don’t project “southern hospitality” by any means. Very standoff-ish.

Yats and even uptowners are far more warm.

NE Louisiana and NW Louisiana should be separate.

NE Louisiana actually has redeeming qualities.

Bourbon is named after Bourbon Street, as it is where the Kentucky-based spirit found initial popularity for it's unique taste and relative affordability compared to French cognac.

Remember the backlash around the joke about coonasses?

There are plenty of people in the southern part of the state that aren't Cajun or coonasses

I don't know what it is exactly. I tend to lean toward it maybe being related to the fact that they know they're not as educated as the other person thus they immediately put their guard up out of fear they're going to be taken advantage of in some way. That guard results in them getting defensive over literally everything and they turn into a giant horse's arse.

That has only been my professional experience with them, though, and there are plenty who are not that way. It's just that the majority I've dealt with are.

Coming from California, if a neighbor was moving to Louisiana, I would absolutely warn them of the savage and pervasive nature of crime in the state.

I would also inform them coonass is NOT a racial slur. Got accused of that when I first moved here. The guy was all,”I’m from North Carolina, and I’ve never heard that term.” Real dickhead- before iPhone, so I couldn’t immediately defend myself and I had a black friend present. I’m still ticked about it.

North Louisiana - Anywhere Alexandria and up. These are your Rednecks just like Mississippi and Southern Arkansas. This can also include the parishes north of Lake Pontchartrain which are called the Florida Parishes sometimes since they used to be part of Spanish Florida. These people are your basic Rednecks like in Mississippi and Southern Arkansas. Southern Accents and Southern food. Baptists that frown when they drink.

You’re in way over your head. The people you describe live in the pine tree country. From Monroe east to the Mississippi is different. It’s Mississippi delta people.

What website was that quiz on? I remember something like that. It triangulated where you're likely from or grew up based on your language choices.

I'd love to take that again.

GOT IT!

It kinda sucks but the negative is grossly overstated on this message board. You won't get shot at/murdered in Nola/BR unless you're up to no good.

Tbh, the one thing that seems to shock outsiders when they come here is straight up how many black people live here. Up north and out west, blacks and whites live VERY segregated lives in communities that rarely interact. Black people exist only in the cities, and only in certain areas of those cities. Blacks and whites rarely go to the same restaurants, play in the same rec sports leagues, shop at the same stores, go to church together, etc, When racist yanks come down here they’re shocked that whites are a minority in many places, even rural areas. They didn’t understand how integrated social circles and community life really is considering how the media makes so much hay about how racist the south is. I remember when my yankee roommate from Ohio met a country black cowboy, his mind was basically broken. It simply couldn’t fathom that.
