quote:

An American Christian missionary is thought to have been killed by tribespeople from one of the world's most isolated communities on a remote island hundreds of miles off the coast of India, according to officials.

quote:

The 27-year-old American came to India on a tourist visa but came to the Andaman and Nicobar islands in October with the express purpose of proselytizing

quote:

The island, North Sentinel Island, is inhabited by the Sentinelese people, who are protected under Indian law. Just more than a dozen people are officially thought to live on the remote island in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago.

What an idiot.

Are we supposed to say tribespeople now?

I'd get it if he truly felt called to do it, but we're still not supposed to break the law.

One of the reasons that the island is off limits is to protect the people there from disease. It wasnt just for his protection. He potentially could have killed them all because jesus is the way.

This reminds me of the dumbass missionary’s that go to places like Afghanistan and then SHOCKINGLY get kidnapped by the Taliban. Then our troops have to risk their lives rescuing them. How about don’t go pressing your beliefs on people that don’t want them? And if you do, then own the results and don’t whine.

If the article is accurate, this tribe will be gone in the not too distant future.

What an idiot. I feel no sympathy for people who go to force Christianity on third world tribes people.

I don’t think people in taliban prison camps are calling the US to bring them home, but I could be wrong.

Got any evidence he was forcing them? Sounds like they were the ones using force.

Sounds like a group of people who have made it abundantly clear that they want themselves and their way of life to be left the frick alone.

Just... leave them the frick alone.

Or get killed. I don't care

The Sentinelese do not frick around. Here's footage of them firing arrows at helicopters (which they probably thought were demons):

The Sentinelese are widely known for being one of the last (mostly) uncontacted tribes in the world. They got this reputation because they literally try to murder anyone who lands on their island.

They’ve attacked passing helicopters.

Anyone who believed they would show up and preach there because they were protected by the baby jeebus is a special level of arrogant/crazy/stupid.

Islanders on these or nearby islands were some of the few coastal dwellers who were not killed by the massive tsunami caused by the earthquake in the Indian Ocean south east of Sumatra.

Their history told them when the earth moves, head to higher ground immediately. They've survived, which is more than can be said for tens of thousands of more 'advanced' folks.
