It’s been almost 30 years since anyone was able to have peaceful contact with them. Probably because the archers had diarrhea that day though. Somehow they have a census of these people though but I’m not sure how. If all they have is archery I say we take the island and build a Sandals.

That "award" isn't a formal one but ISWYDT anyway.

And guess what?

Not one single thing will occur or be said to any of the natives. It will just be accepted that since the are uncivilized and live on ancient traditions, that it is perfectly fine to kill civilized folks

I’m more concerned that the guy will give them a disease and wipe them out. They were protecting themselves.

They are the last pre-Neolithic tribe left on Earth. It is highly illegal to go and try to approach them. They should be left alone. This arrogant fool could have killed them all just by making contact.

It’s less that it’s “fine” and more that it’s simply held against them less. If some idiot breaks into Mike’s habitat and gets his arse mauled to death, I imagine that there wouldn’t be many reasonable people blaming Mike.

I’m sure there is something in the history of these crazy bastards that incentivized murdering anyone who stepped foot on their island. If you don’t want to risk being murdered, don’t break into their habitat.

And if you’re a 27 year old moron with a messiah complex, don’t be surprised that you might win stupid prizes when you play stupid games.

And why should there be? They aren't a threat to anybody unless you decide to try and go on to their island.

Civilized folks have a long history of killing. I cant blame the islanders for not wanting us there, even though they know nothing of our history.

Mother fricker just couldn't take a hint:

quote:

"According to the fishermen, they used a wooden boat fitted with motors to travel to the island on November 15," Pathak said.

"The boat stopped 500-700 meters (1,640 - 2,300 ft) away from the island and (the American missionary) used a canoe to reach the shore of the island. He came back later that day with arrow injuries. On the 16th, the (tribespeople) broke his canoe.

"So he came back to the boat swimming. He did not come back on the 17th; the fishermen later saw the tribespeople dragging his body around."

Just more than a dozen people are officially thought to live on the remote island

Incest going on for sure

Keyword officially. Estimated to be more like 500

Government officials don't actually go to the island so their "official census" numbers come from them sitting in a boat a mile off shore and counting how many different people happen to walk out on the beach in the couple of hours they're there.

I completely agree that the guy had what was coming to him and he is an absolute idiot for going over there.

But they are piece of shite savages.

One of the reasons that the island is off limits is to protect the people there from disease.

If only there were a mechanism that could protect people from disease. Maybe something that contained dead viruses so the immune system could prepare for live ones.

Fly bys, parking a boat off shore and counting individuals as they investigate, A buoy off shore with some camera equipment, counting fires, using a fly by of satellite. All could be used to come to an estimate.

Look, I'm as much about respecting history and cultures, etc., as anyone else, but to a certain extent, if this had happened, so what?

We'd lose more chances at understanding our prehistory.

Because there's so much studying going on there now as it is? Let's be honest, this group is a backwards, savage and likely unintelligent relict group of people. I'm not saying wipe them out, and by all means protect the island by legal means, but let's not act like they are some sacrosanct civilization.

I understand the whole witnessing and missionary thing but sometimes common sense should prevail.
