What caliber do you think most AR-15s are? What caliber do you think most hunting rifles are?

Everyone bitching about guns. And yet they had stuff in place to potentially stop this that wasn’t actually there or didn’t do it’s job? Lol

That's why we need more laws that we either won't or can't enforce.

18 years old. No job. Lives with grandma. Magically acquires two Daniel Defense AR-15s, body armor, and fancy optics.

Someone with reasonable experience, like they grew up hunting, could take your basic hunting rifle and kill 21 people in 10 minutes very easily. Something like a lever action 30-30 that's been around for over 50 years can be very deadly in this sort of situation.

An AR can make the situation worse without a doubt, but blaming it on an AR is ignorant.

I have trouble with the story saying the shooter went through an unlocked door yet the police where waiting for a key. Plenty of questions with out seeing the layout

Not saying a conspiracy but what is out there is confusing.

I think he went in the building through an unlocked door, then went in a classroom and locked himself in there. And that was the door the police couldn't get in.

The question I want answered is why did this ahole choose to go to the elementary school instead of the high school where he was “picked on” ? I bet a million the high school has an armed sro and the media is holding that back because it changes the narrative.

It’s also interesting that his social media has been completely scrubbed. No chance the media lets us see all his liberal shite.

I want to someone to define School Resource officers job duties. At my school, our resource officer sits in an office all day on his phone.

Seems like failures on multiple levels gave these kids and teachers zero chance.

Yep, and authorities continue to fail in explaining what exactly happened.

The tales of dysfunction about this police force will start coming out soon. The force looks like a bunch of fat slobs probably boning the fat female cops in the squad and having a good old time.

Well, time to start keeping school children locked up and under armed guard, so that we can retain our God given freedom to allow any angry 18 yr old kid to walk down the street and buy a military grade machine gun as easy as buying a gallon of milk.

This is what real freedom looks like, folks. MERICA

How did he get in the classroom? Classroom doors should be closed and always locked. SRO is ineffective. If you have a big campus and he is on the other side of it the intruder still comes in front easily and takes him out if he encounters him. Only way to prevent is to fence off with tall fencing with barb wire on top and locked gate at front.

That’s what I have been wondering if this version of events holds.

The door to building being unlocked was first problem, and one I think an older multi building campus is more likely to have and even more so when it has end of year ceremonies like Robb did earlier that day. Too many buildings and doors for SRO or anyone to check all quickly if not 100% complaint at all times without exception. Should not be able to leave unlocked from outside anyway which makes me go back to honor roll ceremonies and school making it easier for parents of various grades to attend and then forgot about it. Also not sure why killer left bag of ammo right outside building door unless he saw someone coming to lock it and dropped bag to get in quickly with gun ready.

But the door to classroom should have been easy to shut & lock with 2 teachers. At first I was thinking he shot through it or something similar, but with reports Border team needed to get key that doesn’t seem likely. If doors sturdy (and seemed to be part of newer building) than wonder what happened for them to open them or not shut them. I think one of teachers’ husband was a cop who helped with active shooter trainings which would make door being open even more strange.

Reports are raw and all over the place still. Some on kid who hid are talking about them watching a movie before lunch right before killer got in classroom, but others are saying school was put on lockdown after 911 call about shooting in area which would have been several minutes before he even entered the building.

That may be part of it.
The elementary school is .5 miles from his grandparents' home. He shot grandma, hopped in her vehicle and took off, elementary school was just around the corner.

What the frick are you talking about?. A .308 is a much more common hunting caliber and far more powerful than a 5.56 or .223.

Do most elementary schools have SRO? In a town with population of 15k

My town population is 20k and we have at least one SRO at all three public elementary school, the middle school, and high school. All outer doors are locked and it is a PITA to get into my daughter's school if you have to pick something up. Sadly, they also do "wildlife" drills in the event a deer gets into the building.

That being said, I live in an OT rich town and we are 40 minutes away from Sandy Hook. Our town has the resources to hire as many people we want or ask the parents to cover the cost. Sadly, some towns just don't have the resources for the security expenses.

ETA: we have 5 public schools and it looks like our overall budget is $95M and we spend $400k for security at the schools. I have no reference on how that compares to other communities.
