There is a reasonable compromise on arming teachers.

Arming teachers is probably a bad idea, arming trained teachers is a good idea.
Most major PD's and SO's have a reserve program. Allow the teachers to go through those programs. They usually have an annual requirement of service hours for those programs. Waive it since they are on the government clock full time as teachers.
Nothing wrong with charging them a fee. District can pay it. Teacher can pay it. Teacher can raise funds through gofundme or PTA.
However, the teacher has some law enforcement training. Require him or her to go to range. Reserve program can keep track of scores and qualification. Don't qualify at that session, sorry, turn in your weapon until you do like everyone else does.
Oh, and the teacher has to carry it concealed.

It’s kind of hard for Trump to argue that we should train teachers when his budget cuts money for education.
Also, just because they’re teachers doesn’t make them responsible people. Look how many teachers are having relationships with students.

I said arming law enforcement trained teachers.
And how many cops are wife-beaters, take kickbacks, get DUI's and get in trouble. Guess what? Teachers and cops are like the rest of us- people.

Hire veterans who have been cleared of any mental illnesses like PTSD, etc to be armed security guards at school.
You put guns in classrooms kids will try to steal them, more bad than good would come from even some teachers having guns on them. While I am all for people having guns, some people are just not fit to handle them.. Even if you train them..
I'd rather have people who I know, knows what they are doing and isn't pussy enough to stay away if a situation happens.

Yea, all of those extra responsibilities on top of making 40 grand a year. I'm sure all the best and brightest will sign up for that job. Our schools need better teachers who actually like teaching not people who do it because they can't do anything else.

I am a high school teacher. You don't want me carrying a gun in the classroom. At best, I would shoot the window out. At worst, I would miss and hit a student.

Give the teachers the option of getting such training. As I wrote, the district can pay for it or the teacher can raise the money himself.

Whats the accuracy standard for even the best police departments? I read for the NYPD it was 34%, I didn't see a link though so that may not be accurate. Regardless, introducing more bullets flying into a situation is just as likely to make situations more deadly as they are to make them less so.
You're also introducing a gun for a student to access without even having to acquire their own.
It's just an awful idea all around.

I'm a teacher and coach. I like the idea but also see the glaring potential problems with it.
I would say that they have to be very well trained and the weapon be concealed.... also that it not be common knowledge what teachers are armed.

Air Marshalls do well on planes, why not School Marshalls? Federal Employee that can also teach or be a coach (we know those frickers cant teach anything higher than basic English or history!).
