I bet every single cop in America and future cops hired will do that exact same thing. (sarcasm) Thought this might be needed with the cop hate on the board at times.

frick you.
YOu mean you wouldn't chip in $50 or $100 for a teacher to get trained? I'm talking about OPTIONS, not making them mandatory. Yeesh. SOme districts will pick up the tab. Others won't. I"m talking about programs that are already offered by local law enforcement. Don't have to charge a fee, just waive that annual hourly service requirement.

My wife (no pics) is a teacher. I don't want her anywhere around a gun with a room full of kids... and she doesn't want it either. Most HS teachers are older middle age women. Think back to when you were in school - did you want most of your teachers to have a gun???
I think maybe 5-10 percent of teachers could actually want to do this, and could do this. I think they should be given a path.

that's a hell of a lot of money to expend. Why would they want to do that?
Well, at least it would show that they are putting their money where their mouth is.
And the money would actually achieve something useful, as opposed to buying off congressmen. Win-win.

Not one person is advocating for arming incompetent people, strawman

Because they want the teachers armed. Don't tell someone they have a new requirement to do their job and then to pay for it themselves.
That's a broader issue I don't understand with this argument. People want to protect their "freedom" and right to own guns. So they accomplish this by forcing an unwanted burden on a massive segment of society and the workforce if they want to do something as basic as still be allowed to do their job and provide for their family? That's not freedom at all. That's give me mine, frick you.

I've avoided the "armed teachers' debate, but has there been any explanation for where and how the gun will be stored inside a classroom?
That would be my biggest worry. I feel confident in my ability to use a gun against a shooter to protect others. I could handle that.
But I once had a student cold clock another student because the kid "liked" his girlfriend's Facebook pictures. And that's what he said too. "That's for liking my girlfriend's pictures on Facebook!"
Y'all really think it's going to be alright having a weapon in the room with hormone-raged teenagers acting the way they do?
I once had a special ed student throw books, chairs, and a book bag at me because I asked him to pick his head up off the table and get to work. Screaming "frick YOU frick YOU frick YOU" at me while he did it. If I have a gun on my hip, you really think that psycho isn't going to try to wrestle it from me? You think if he tries to wrestle it from me to kill me and I use it to shoot him that I won't be going to jail for murder?
Seems like we'll have more issues with guns in the classroom than with the lone crazed student coming in with a gun, which happens rarely.

No, this is absurd, sorry. This entire conversation is a non-starter and a distraction.

Quit lying.
No one is wanting to force anything on anyone but the gun grabbers.
I wrote charge a fee. You don't have to do that. Most programs require that those who complete program must volunteer so many hours. That means they get the state fair details, game details, etc.
That requirement does not have to mandatory but can be waived for teachers. Agency can charge a fee if it likes.
I'm talking about creating options. Truth is, few teachers will take advantage of it but some will. They will take it seriously and the training seriously.
If a killer comes into the school, the teachers doesn't necessarily have to kill him. He can kill him but keeping him tied up for several minutes can make all the difference between life and death for others. Gives them time to escape and time for police to arrive.
As I wrote, I'm talking about options, nothing should be mandatory.

Yeah, we have to contort ourselves so the mentally ill have access to weapons. Its in the Bible.

Having more stringent requirements and arming teachers, two very different things.

Arming teachers is an awful idea. There is more to it than shooting straight!!! There’s weapon retention, crossfire, backdrop targets, situational awareness, de escalation of force....in my opinion, it would have to be select few qualified individuals and we all know how that would go....there are better options on the table. Arming teachers, even those adept is just not smart....too many variables that are life/death situations and decisions that have to be made....don’t want to see a panic fire situation in a lunchroom of 300+ kids....

probably a bad idea? May in fact be the worst idea in modern history
