You’d need more training than just learning gun safety and shooting at a paper target, we’re basically talking about CQB (Close Quarter Battle), and that shite is very expensive. When is the last time you’ve known school districts, of all things, to have disposable funding like that?
And the teacher paying for it his/herself? Get real man. I’m not for the type of gun control the Dems are calling for, but arming teachers is not the solution.

They have to also have a golden aura about them as well. That takes several minutes to achieve.

Even some police training won't help a teacher who is faced with shooting and killing one of their students. The fear of pulling the weapon in error and potentially dealing with that blow back (possibly fired), may lead to additional hesitation.

or there could be the opposite problem and a teacher could kill a student they think is involved who isnt.
"arm the teachers" is nice red meat for the conservative base but in practice there are so many different ways it could make the situation worse not better.

My wife actually has a good idea, sort of. She suggests that the NRA give money to schools for security. I say petition the NRA for grants to allow teachers who want the training to get it at no cost to the school or the teacher.

Not a fan of arming teachers but if you do there should be extensive training and the finger print guns.

Hoover, AL has an excellent program. They have some active duty PD in the HSs and middle schools, but the elementary schools are staffed with retired officer who are paid an hourly rate of $25.
Because of State retirement constraints, an individual on a State retirement can't make over $25k a year working in a State job, so several of these guys end up working about 3 days/week.
Although they are retired, they are still young (well under 60), so they, the school, and the city benefit greatly.

Sheriff Paul Cairney of Argyle, Texas, described the process by which staff members can carry firearms in the school district.
Video at link of what it takes for a teacher to carry in this county.
The teacher must want to carry, the school administrators must approve the person to carry and then they must take a class and pass firearms training similar to police and pass.
I am also in favor of a monthly stipend for those that choose to carry...
