The United States likely surpassed Russia and Saudi Arabia to become the world’s largest crude oil producer earlier this year, based on preliminary estimates in EIA’s Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO). In February, U.S. crude oil production exceeded that of Saudi Arabia for the first time in more than two decades. In June and August, the United States surpassed Russia in crude oil production for the first time since February 1999.

‘Member when dimocratix Jimmy Carter said we’d run out of oil by the end of the 1980s?

Can you expound on why this is bad? Curious.

Dems have been saying we’re 5 years away from running out of oil for at least 40 years.

We should ultimately remove ourselves from our dependence on a finite resource. So good in the sense that we will reap economic benefits for America, which is great, but bad because that isn't sustainable forever and we'd be smart to harness sustainable energy in a way that it could replace our need for oil.

Why not both?

There is no law stopping people from buying solar or wind energy. Or preventing companies in that industry from innovating like oil and gas did with horizontal drilling and fracing.

Certainly but look at a place like the UAE and what they are doing with nothing but oil money. Its absurd to not take the current oil money when we can, and use the resources as best we can.

If the USA runs out of oil then everyone else is likely in the same boat as us. There are plenty of countries such as China that survive off of foreign oil.

Please explain why it isn't substainable with links to the true global supply of oil. PLease explain why we would be smart to go against sound economic princples and start using more expensive ways of creating eneregy.

You gotta have your Trump blinders on and blatantly ignore available information if you think his presidency is why oil production is so high

Definitely not arguing that we shouldn't reap the current existing benefits. Especially when in competition with other nations to stay ahead of them.

Regardless of anyone’s position on fossil fuels, it is better to be producers than consumers. Keep it going.

Lol. We arent running out of oil any time soon. By the time we do we will have perfected hydrogen fuel cells and other alternatives so it wont matter.

His administration’s policies being favorable to energy certainly helps. It’s not “why” oil production is high, but it certainly has a positive effect, or more importantly, not a negative effect as Obama did.
