We should ultimately remove ourselves from our dependence on a finite resource. So good in the sense that we will reap economic benefits for America, which is great, but bad because that isn't sustainable forever and we'd be smart to harness sustainable energy in a way that it could replace our need for oil.

There's enough oil in Alaska alone to run the US for a long long time. Massive discoveries up there every year.

His administration’s policies being favorable to energy certainly helps. It’s not “why” oil production is high, but it certainly has a positive effect, or more importantly, not a negative effect as Obama did.

Did you see that plot?

Until it’s cheaper and more efficient to use renewable energy oil will remain strong.

Yes, what are you trying to imply with it? That production is independent of politics?

Its absurd to not take the current oil money when we can,

That oil money is coming from the American consumer, though. We're still paying upwards of $3/gallon. If we have so much oil, why aren't we getting a break at the pump?

Oil isn’t gasoline and supply is only part of the pricing equation.

Sure at the end of the day global markets will be the biggest driving factor, but if you don't think Trump has been good for oil and gas industry you don't know much about the oil and gas industry.

Actually, his administration last year did throw down a ruling against Federal Resource Development Units that is anti-oil & gas development. So there has been instances where the industry has continued to thrive DESPITE some of his administration policies.

But overall, yes. It is nice to have a President not trying to portray the industry as evil.

Why not let the market figure out instead of the Government getting involved?

@HailHailtoMichigan if you're trying to say it's Trump's doing, the US's oil production has been steadily increasing since 2009 due to the insane oil prices in 2008. Saudi Arabia has cut back due to OPEC trying to stabilize prices. Russia has been on a steady increase since the mid-90s and has just recently hit a lull, though I'm not sure what the reason for that is.
