We shouldn't be trying to scam kids who are trying to actually work.

It's not a scam, nobody reads anything anymore. Multiple pages of warnings and consents exist, but their parents didn't read that shite, so they don't. Just click OK.

Remember TINSTAAFL? There is no such thing as a free lunch? Skepticism is a great thing to teach kids, so they don't do dumb shite like DoorDash through Affirm. The "system designed to keep people poor," doesn't exist. Stupid people do exist. Just like privates out of basic buying cars at 22% interest have always existed, and always will.

Problems you have because no one taught you any better are by definition problems of ignorance, not problems of stupidity.

I really don't see how there's anything controversial about saying that how much wealth a person has is due to some combination of their own decisions, the resources they had starting out (including financial knowledge), and a degree of luck, either good or bad.

Almost no one would argue that a person's own choices have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on their wealth, and it seems just as silly to claim that systemic factors have absolutely no bearing on it.

Literally every business exists to separate people from their money.

That's how I think about things and it helps me spend less on shite I dont need

The employer has the option of choosing a payroll system that doesn't do that shite.

Do what shite? Allow someone access to their earned income earlier than the bi weekly pay run? It is literally an additional option that someone has to opt into. If they don’t want to opt into it, the employer’s payroll system operates the same as any other payroll system. And since we are going to bring in payroll systems, they may very well be using ADP for all we know. They operate with DailyPay

If they were all fully developed adults, then I'd agreed that there's no excuse. But it's no coincidence they chose that payroll system while employing kids.

I don’t think you actually understand how these actually work .

What exactly is the scam here? Explain what you think it is because I’m at a loss of understanding what here is supposed to be a scam.

Ridiculous point. How many 16 year old kids are paying their own way through life?

Why in the living frick would an employer be on the hook for someone basically getting a cash advance on their pay check?

It blows my mind how someone doesn’t know what services they’re subscribed. How do you never check your online banking? It’s not rocket science.

Nope, it’s not rocket science…but it is rocket money, and for $10/month and your privacy, you don’t have to worry about your budget.

I swear, I think some in this thread think the business is getting some cut of the fees or something judging by some of these responses

The system rewards capital and would prefer you not be poor. Poors and government drag the system down.

This is dumb. If you want money in advance, which is what dailypay is, you are going to pay a fee. Nobody provides a service for free, for long at least.

Whenever I lose track of subscriptions I just report my credit card stolen and get a new car with new number. Everyone comes quick and then its easy to decide if I want to keep some of them. I have one pre paid card I use for subscriptions.

ATM fees are what really tick me off

No way I am even paying one dollar to get my own cash

If I need a little petty cash I either go to my bank’s ATM or do cash back at the grocery check out for no fee

shite is out of control. My family’s went from 2200 to 4300 a month in the past TWO YEARS!!
And it seems more and more it doesn’t pay for anything. Go to doctor/hospital and pay deductible and then get a bill for hundreds for something I didn’t get a year ago.

About to start looking at other options.

Note for anyone getting hit with high hospital bills. Request administrative review

Sounds like a voluntary system.
So, what is the design?

After Covid, a lot of the fast food places here were advertising “work today, paid tomorrow” I didnt realize there was a fee.

There is a good number of people who pay absurd fees so they can get their tax “refund” (really just their child credits and earned income credit) 2-3 weeks earlier than normal.

the “system” you describe is voluntary. That contradicts the “design” feature central to your thesis
