Form of dominance. Them baws probably had the juices flowing after all the fighting they did. Also the women did all the work so the more wives you could keep under control the more shite got done around the teepee, camp, whatever.

I've read a ton of stuff on the Comanches. Another great book is Captured - the true stories of white settlers captured by the Comanches who adjusted to Comanche life so quickly they never wanted to come back.

It's easy to mytholize the comanche since we are safe. They had some very noble characteristics in how kind they were to their own children, but they were a brutal, savage, primitive, war-like people.

In addition to the rapes, torture mentioned, they would just take a captured newborn and bash it against a rock/tree.

It's hard to ultimately sympathize with such a brutal culture that's sole purpose was to raid and pillage.

The whites are not without atrocities either though.

At one point they controlled most of South America, all of Mexico, half the u.s. and some of Canada.

Be careful with the term controlled. The Spanish took credit for having all the territory, but they did not control the territory.

The Mongols were know to wrap enemy leaders in blankets and stampede horses over them or shove stones down their throat to choke'em.

Let us not forget about the time that The Mongols captured an enemy European army and castle, then took the castle gates off the hinges, laid it on top all the nobles and officers, ate a celebratory feast on them, then held a victory dance on it through the night.

Everyone under the door was slowly crushed to death.

That's some badass, psychological warfare they did. Europe was ready to bend the knee to them, and would have if Khan hadn't died and they stopped their conquest to return for his funeral.

They have been described as the finest light cavalry in the world. Were the Mongols light cavalry?

Every single Mongol fighter rode a horse. They were the best horsemen in the world, including everyone who has come after them.

Where would the contest be held. In Texas, the Comanche kick butt

Eh I dk the terrain really isn’t all that different. If the Mongols got down into the valleys and canyons sure, but if they stayed in the plains? I imagine a large flat grassland was equal to the garden of Eden for a Mongol who’s used to living in the dessert

McCarthy just writes depressing novels with no payoff. Just horrible thing followed by horrible thing followed by horrible thing the end. It’s just not enjoyable to read his book, which is certainly not the case with McMurtry.

The governor of French Louisiana wrote in 1726 that the Chickasaws “breathe nothing but war and are unquestionably the bravest of the continent.”

It was a strictly foreign concept that you dont do these types of things. A concept brought over by Europeans. Comanche, and many tribes lived only for survival. Reading about these things makes it easily understood how terms like savage came to be used to describe them along with so many supporting the eradication of them.

Thanks for the recommendation. I found the Thalia trilogy pretty easily on Amazon. But, not coming up with anything on the Duane Moore series? Is that also McMurtry? Thanks.

It’s the same series. Duane Moore is the main character.

Thank you! I was trying the other day to remember the name of the Terrance Hill spaghetti western that came after They Call me Trinity and Trinity Is Still My Name. I loved those movies when I was a kid.
