I've noticed this too. To think those "value" meals are like almost 10 dollars now at McDonald's.

This isn't anything new. Companies have been doing this for a long time.

This has been going on for years.

One of the main examples is dog food. Used to be sold in big obvious round number sized bags, now it’s some number crunching random amount.

Then every once in a while they’ll throw in the old round number bag and claim you’re getting a few extra pounds of food for free.

They stopped that bullshite with Trump. Started back up when you voted for Biden and gas prices skyrocketed.

7-11 did this with slurpees a decade or more ago. I remember being in like high school and getting a slurpee and noticing the domed lid they used instead of basically going all the way to the edge of the cup now started maybe 1/2" inwards. Clearly saving very small ammounts of crushed ice and syrup per slurpee I noticed it immediately and was like only 14. They aren't fooling people but we still put up with it.

So glad that I don’t know what this means.

It is a shame things like this do not get captured as inflation

They do. CPI is calculated by volume or weight, not strictly by units. Just because that myth has been spread like wildfire by rocket and company doesn’t mean it’s true.

My favorite is when they sell the older, larger size as the “Family Pack” or “Value Pack” a few months after changing the base unit size

I have yet to buy or eat a snickers candy bar after they spilt a king bar bar into two smaller size bars and tried to pass it off like you somehow got more.
