I am convinced the most over engineered car ever made was the Lexus LS400. Toyota spent a billion dollars in the 80's designing the car to launch the lexus brand.
I have a 1992 LS400 with a little over half a million miles on the original engine/trans. All the luxury electronic gizmos still work. Engine pulls hard and it drives smooth as silk with no vibrations or rattles. It blows people's minds how nice it drives given its age/mileage.

I had an older car that had 230,000+ miles on it that I got my from mom when in school, which she bought new. I sold it when it broke down and just went with a new car and the person that bought it fixed it up for pretty cheap. Compared to my new vehicle, it drove quieter, which I didn't appreciate until it was gone. However the AC stopped working by the end of it and so I was ready to get rid of the fricker.

130k on a 2013 Camry and I can’t wait to see how far it goes. I’d be happy with 250k but believe it will be fine after that.

Scruffy is at about 150,000 on his 2006 Honda Civic.
Not likely that it’ll reach 200,000 though.

I had to get my 2012 F150 a new engine after a cylinder cracked.
Talked to the mechanic about the best engines out there. He said that ford and chevy were comparable...
But Dodge keeps him in business. This was 2 years ago.

If I owned a 2014 model that already needed a new engine I can say without a doubt I'd never but that brand again.

My 3500 flatbed has 468k on it; 80% towing a gooseneck, and it pulls 15 tons down the road regularly.
Gotta tranny tune up and HD clutch at 350k with small repairs along the way; e.g. PS pump, a pulley, etc.
For good measure only, at 450k I had a front end and drivetrain rebuild. She was getting loose down there with age (per usual), and with a quarter million $ worth of machinery in tow, it seemed right. That cost me $1900. Dirt cheap.
There's a reason the majority of hot-shotting trucks are Dodge 1 tons; there's a reason why folks are always hunting for a serviceable 5.9- especially a manual 5.9: Take Dodge auto trannys out of the equation (or any auto trans for every day pulling), add an HD clutch and baw out. Not uncommon for folks to put a 5.9 in a Ford body to have the cake and eat it too.
I've gotta single cab 2.7 manual Tacoma with 263k miles on odo as my run around truck. I've owned 3 of em', and I love em', but when the time is nigh to cut out the bawchit and quit the jollydickin' around, a high output, 24 valve, 5.9 cummins with a south bend clutch and 6 speed rowing stick in the floorboard will get it done with the quickness.
(It is still a dodge interior though.)

There is a lot of assumption there...
I wont ever own a ford again. But Im not saying that my CURRENT Chevy wont have problems either. I am saying what an 40 year experienced engine mechanic has told me...
Dodge keeps him in business. There were about 10 vehicles in the shop that day... 4 were dodges.

I am looking at a 99-06ish 4runner or possibly Sequoia.
Everyone keeps saying to check for rust, evidently Toyota used some shitty Mexican factories or something for that time frame and pretty much every Taco, 4runner, Sequoia rusts out after so many years.
I don't know if this is fearmongering or for real.
Maybe it only affects people up north?
Have you ever had a rust issue?
Would a vehicle that spent its life in the Southwest be exempt from the rust problem?

I ran a 2001 4 cylinder Highlander for over 400,000 miles and then , still running perfectly, sold it to a mechanic for 2k.

I had a ‘89 hardbody 4x4 that I bought new ($7500 ) and I put 268K on it before trading in on a new ‘99.

No, it's the Land Cruiser. They are seriously over engineered vehicles from top to bottom. They were designed to last decades. The LS400 is a study in design efficiency and building QC into the supply chain, but the Land Cruisers are better engineered.

Traded in my Mazda pickup (made by Ford), with 408,000. Very, very little ever went wrong with it. Changed oil every 6-8000 miles.

I think the most miles I've ever had on a vehicle was 108k
