Only cried twice ever. When I watched Brian’s Song and when ET’s finger lit up.

I actually heard this from Richard Condon once and it was one of those unfortunate things that stuck with me.

Mother died last September and before that, when we put our schnauzer down a few years ago.

Still can’t bring myself to get another dog even though I know our kids would really love one.
The chickens are gonna have to suffice for now

Same here. What was odd - when cleaning out her house a month later, I realized that all the material things she had spent a lifetime accumulating and were important to her - really meant nothing when its your time to go.

Thankfully it was not for a loss. I have been fortunate in that regard.

5 years ago my son played football and wrestled all through high school. Good athlete but was not going beyond that. After his last wrestling match, he kissed the mat. I knew he knew it was all done. That night when I thought about it I lost it.

Fast forward last summer, my daughter, (no pics) played softball her whole life. Had a couple D3 offers but decided to be done. She was pretty good. She had never homered and all she wanted to do was hit a home run her last season. Last game, hit home run. After game, packing up car for last time, lost it again for a couple of minutes.

I so loved watching them play over the years and realizing it was done sucked. They handled it much better than I did.

Are you separating tears from physical pain from tears of sadness? 'Cause I cried like a baby when I stepped unexpectedly off a step, took a hard spill, wrenched a spinal disk in my back and had to get a morphine drip to stop the pain that felt like a red hot ice pick was shoved up my spine. Yeah, I was seriously crying from pain.

It’s been decades.

I’m to the point where I fear that I won’t cry when my parents pass. I just can’t picture myself sobbing.

Recent health scare for myself. Probably not very rational and nowhere near death but the thought crept in my head truly for the first time ever.

“You may not make it out of this…”

fricked me up.

<——Today is Day 12,150 for me since mine passed. Almost exactly a third of a century from now.

So that evening when I got home from Baptist Hospital and was able to hold my year-old first child for solace.

Saints beat the Eagles on MNF that night, fun fact.

I tear up on occasion but haven’t since “truly wept”.

I’ve been grieving for my son more in the past few months than I have in the past 20 years. I thought I was past it, but I have too much thinking time these days.
