I am not sure if you knew this...but you could ask for the pickles to be removed if you don't want them.
I do that at other fast food places so I don't get a pound of mayo on my burger.

It's still WAY faster than those damn "select your drink with whatever flavor" one at a time machines that certain parents let their 7 year old play on while they take selfies.

That must be some secret fast food code where you ask them to remove pickles and they take all the Mayo off your burger.

And they put pickles on their sandwiches which is gross.
Xtra pickles on my Chick-fil-a.

Thanks for the tip.
The fact that so many of you here like pickles on a chicken sandwich explains a lot about the retarded posts on this board.

At least it’s not one of those stupid soda machines you see in firehouse subs
Also, I always get extra pickles with my spices chicken sand
I tell ya who has a great spiced chicken sand - Wendy’s... prob better than CFA

Any idea why they don't let customers pour their own refills?
Because it isn't God's will for them to do that...
And also, the heathens would keep it a mess.

It saves them money surely. Why would someone need to drink a gallon of carbonated drink anyway?
I don't mind because they invest that money into training and hiring and paying employees.

No, it's not.
The employees are quicker at filling your drink than waiting in line behind Mr. gets-every-flavor and grandma trying to learn this futuristic technology.
And there are ten employees scouring the customers to make sure if anyone needs a refill at any given moment. It's better how Chic-Fil-A does it. They can literally help deliver babies, so I'll let them handle my drink.

They are racist. Don't won't people coming in and filling up a cup from home or ordering water just to get 4 refills of tea.

It’s amazing how many people rush to these threads to defend a fast food restaurant.

Also allows Chic Fil A to give you better quality soda. Some places water down their soda to account for people who abuse the unlimited refills. Chic Fil A I am told tries to actually give the recommended setting from the distributor.
God damn you people are fricking stupid.
It's so people don't steal. You can't trust anybody these days. Especially in LA.
Oh and guess what? If you have a contract with coke, they aren't going to set their machines up to be watered down. fricking idiot.

That and, though I can't say for sure, I'm confident it causes less refills. Now considering drinks are usually the highest margin item sold they increase profits.

Coke and Pepsi are pretty religious about calibration. This would either be poor management or an asian restaurant

It probably saves money. Customers have 1-2 glasses of tea/coke instead of 3-4?
It's likely about the ability to provide differentiated service, not about cost.
Post-Mix soda costs restaurants just over $.01/oz - so, a restaurant is likely not incurring any more than $.20 on an average refill. The cup costs more than the soda, and the initial charge has already recouped the expected cost.
Alternatively, if you allow an employee to spend time to refill a cup, it costs arguably more. The Chik-Fil-A near me is paying $13/hr, but let's use $10/hr as a baseline. If the employee spends 30sec interacting with a customer and executing a refill - that costs Chik-Fil-A $.083 in labor (in addition to the cost of post-mix soda).
There's plenty of factors to consider (especially avg time of machine cleanup), but if you fully break down cost-components, it probably costs them more to do the refill for you.

Not really relavent because you aren't adding labor just to refill drinks. You're analysis may be right, but that labor is a sunk cost so it's not really affecting the situation in that way. It's not going to hurt the productivity of getting orders in or moving people through the restaurant to add the cost that way.
