I'm late to the party, but what was the given reason for defunding the BRAVE program?

Side note: it will be interesting to see how strong Gary's allegiance is the mayor if something was to displace her

St G will never happen. The mayor and crew as well as the anti-SG crowd are slowly influencing the annexing all of the SG commercial tax base.

You probably are right, the window was slammed shut.

The last guy who wanted in was granted access to his property from the new I-10 service road by the Mall.

Ahh. So it must be WBRZ that has a member on her "let's hold hands while the murder rate doubles" committee.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I think you are remembering Diane Deaton-morning weather on WAFB who was a member of the Council on Aging Board of Directors. She no longer is. At least that is the only local news person I can think of in that position.

It is also out of turn.

Should read, "The Chief Administrator, or I will..."

You were correct.

So funding was cut because the city didn't spend all of the allocated money in a timely manner? But now they are under fire for spending the money in Incorrect areas?

It makes it look like the mayor was taking this "extra" money and doling it out as payback for her supporters.

And the amounts are ridiculous. 10k was going to a junior high kid for organizing a few basketball games. 16k was going to a couple "organizations" simple to recruit 30 kids for a weeklong camp run by another guy getting $17k for it. And another well-connected friend was getting $17k just to help transport these kids. All of this was discovered when people went digging and found out silky slim was being paid 10k to speak to youths for 40 hours. $250/hour to tell kids how bad cops are and how to avoid them.

All of this coming from money meant to help fight crime in the most crime-riddled areas. Obviously, outreach can be a part of that, but people trying to defend these "contracts" and amounts are using the excuse that "other people do it too so that makes it okay for us" and "racist!!!"

That's what is so annoying about Gravy's b.s. Basically, it's cool to waste tax payer money because it's "our turn" to waste it. Fricking idiot.

When people deposit 9,999.00 at the bank every day, to avoid the CTRs, the banks still complete SARS - suspicious activity reports - to notify the Feds of suspicious financial activity.

When they are apparently cutting checks for JUST under the $17,500 limit to avoid going through the approval process it certainly seems like suspicious financial activity.

I wonder what cut the administration is getting back. "Hey I'll pay you 17 grand for doing jack-shite but you gotta give me 8.5 back. And make it straight cash."

The BR Facebook trolls are out in full force trying to deflect and blame it on racism. Surprised that dunce Meyghan Matt or whoever hasn't started trying to lecture people about privilege and crap yet.

So is this the part where we call for the State AG office to investigate... Because I'm pretty sure that's where this leads.

That was quite an eye opener. The entire Hayride article and their findings is very ... numbing. It makes me think Nagin (I know, different city) was a better (gasp!) mayor than Broome. Did I just say that?

ok well it's very likely the mayor's office delays FOIA requests from here on out

It would be interesting to see at the end of this week. She did say she would have an answer by then.

quote:

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - East Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome says her office is reviewing all contracts related to the BRAVE program and will provide a "comprehensive report" within one week. The mayor’s office has come under fire since the WAFB Investigative Team filed record requests last week related to contracts being issued to Arthur Reed, aka Silky Slim, and others.
