One of the most beautiful (and biggest) structures in all of Christendom, the Hagia Sophia was consecrated to the triune God on this day 1,485 years ago by the Bishop Menas, the Patriarch of Constantinople. The cathedral employed some six hundred religious workers who ministered to its parishioners on a daily basis. Commissioned by Emperor Justinian I, the cathedral took all of five years to build (a remarkably fast pace for the era). It served as the headquarters for eastern Christendom for almost 1,000 years until the city fell to the Ottoman Empire in 1453. It was shortly thereafter converted into a mosque and remained as such until it was converted into a museum between 1931-1935, before it reconstitution back into a mosque in 2020.
It remains an occupied church which will (hopefully) one day be reclaimed by the Holy Catholic Church.

I’ll be honest… I think the pantheon is much much better looking, and is actually a church still.

The Eastern Orthodox Church will tell you it was never a Catholic cathedral.

The Crusades get a bad rap. The Moors were the real pieces of shite during that time.

They need to turn the First Crusade into a limited series. The fact that it succeeded with the amount of infighting amongst the leadership, where there was no central authority, is a miracle unto itself.
