Why does it seem that 75% of big storms (non hurricanes) that are projected to cause flash floods in Nola disintegrate? Is it because of the lake? I feel like every time we are projected to have flooding, we get lucky (2010 and later). I hope this luck continues.

Super is making some informative posts but everyone should be prudent. Don't base your decisions one way or the other on a message board.

Choctaw @ N Ardenwood underwater, per scanner.

54' elevation. Not really in a flood zone, but sort of close to one.

Not a good sign. That's likely backflow from Comite River.

No I can only watch the ditch to retention pond here. No change for us yet. Water did drop about 5 inches today.

My mom lives around the corner in woodland crossing. Around 12,she was fine. Around 2,water on the street. Around 5,2ft of water in the house. My brother expects 3-4 ft in her house. I would expect Torrey pines to be screwed

Looking at the radar seems the heavier band is lining up just west of here training south to north, while the rain shield slowly expands and is moving slowly westward.
When i say lined up west of here i mean west of Baton Rouge.

Is the Country Club in trouble? They got a lot of water in the back in March and the Amite will be 6 feet higher this time.

Backwater flooding is already occurring and will get much worse. Scanner confirms Choctaw at North Ardenwood has suddenly gone underwater. Downstream from this point, we can see that on the Amite, the area has crested. Look at how far the "underwater point" is from where the Amite is cresting. This shows exactly how backwater flooding on the Bayou Fountain/Ward Creek will happen.

It is already happening in North BR.

Look at the X to the far right., that is this gauge, which is cresting right now. This crest will move downstream to Jones Creek, Hurricane Creek, Clay Cut Creek, and Bayou Fountain/Manchac Point areas and do the same if not worse at each of these locations.

Here is it cresting:

Now look at the X on the upstream area (middle area). That is the closest to Ardenwood/Choctaw. It is still quite far from the area but it is where the canal empties. Look at what this gauge is doing:

WELL past the record and still increasing. Baton Rouge is now experiencing what is clearly backwater flooding.

LINK

Click on your address and get the elevation. If you are under 23-24 ft in that area....pay very close attention to the river gauges.

Hey, SuNov... Since you seem to be all smart and shite, got a question for you...

What are the numbers on the squiggly lines on the 100 year map? It says "base flood elevation line" but what does that mean? Is that like the crest level of the flood basin that is required to see flooding I. A particular area? Or the local elevation?

Its not flowing back in that is for sure. Looking at flood maps i am almsot 10 feet higher than the pleasant ridge pendarvis area though at 46.7 feet. Not sure if that matters

Flood insurance does not matter about named storms, a lot of people don't have flood coverage and will be surprised when nothing is covered through their homeowners
