And for many women working in white-collar office jobs, it may actually be holding back their progress at work.

While a 9-to-5 workday once helped people set boundaries between work and home, today's modern office instead means most people are working more than ever. Because women are often tasked with more caregiving, they're juggling even more responsibilities at home and at work.

Work flexibility advocates say less rigid schedules, adaptable desk arrangements and remote work set-ups are key to women's advancement in the workplace. Women still make less than their male counterparts and struggle to climb the ranks to the C-suite. Studies show that when women at work have children, they may suffer a "motherhood penalty," resulting in lower salaries and less respect in the office.

As the co-founder of Werk, a flexibility data and insights company, Annie Dean says she's seen first-hand how liberating women from strict work environments can make employees happier and more engaged in the office.

it'd be nice to have more companies offer flex time or work from home type of stuff to mothers.

I've always heard of 9-5 but in 2018 Merica, reality is 6:30 or 7:00 AM - 5:30 or 6:00 PM.

Thanks A-hole bosses.

This is my favorite.

How are they supposed to get my coffee and make me copies if they're working at these silly "remote work set-ups"?

If those women wouldn’t have married a broke cuck they could stay at home while the man provides for his family.

Well, hey...I mean as long as they'd be willing to wear a GPS tracker to keep them honest- why not?

I can't tell you how many times I've had to go out of town for work because the woman who was supposed to go "couldn't leave because of her kids".

Once again, they want all the good stuff with none of the negative stuff.

These women need to watch Mad Men reruns to see how it was not too long ago. They have it pretty damn good.

Irritates the hell out of me, you're either equal or you're not. This whole "foot on the pedestal and foot off" needs to stop.

It's a burden to men too. This article is sexist.

This is a recipe for creating resentment among the sexes in a work environment.

The men have to come in everyday and grind it out, but the women can work from home because Suzy has to be at gymnastics at 4:00.
