Never been on a guided hunt in my life. Never been on a charter boat either.
That doesn't change the fact that it is illegal to hunt many, if not all, African countries without a local, professional hunter.
ETA: I mean, the guy literally died hunting one of the most dangerous animals on the planet, and you're saying getting to a WMA at 3 am to get a better spot than someone else who scouted the same shite you did is what true hunting is.

Feed deer for months and train them to walk in front of deer stand. From stand Hunter shoots & kills them.
I always thought hunting is less passive than this. More Cape Buffalo on safari than lazy boy carnival booth.

Yeah bro, I know that was his tracks. Lead back to the placenta

Sad but that’s hardcore hunting and he apparently died doing what he loved.

What’s the refund policy when this happens?

I am surprised that more tourists in Yellowstone don't suffer the same fate from taking selfies with those massive creatures
Sometimes they can attack but it’s nothing like a Cape buffalo

It's hunting. There's no refund.
A guide / charter fisherman doesn't give refunds.
They don't call it catching or killing. It's fishing and hunting. There's no guarantees unless it's in a pen.

There are plenty of things I love such as spending time with my daughter. Getting gorged to death by a horned dump truck in Africa isn't on the list.

I lived more than 10 years in Africa and not once did I get invited to dinner with Lion, Giraffe, Water Buffalo or any other exotic animal that "goes to the locals".
My wife is a local and she has never been invited to these soirees either.

That sucks. Sounds like you missed out.

Was it an arsehole buffalo? Sometimes, they kill off these hyper territorial alpha animals because they keep killing the rest of the herd.
True, I guess there are a lot of nuances at play here in this story. Maybe it was a nuisance animal.

South Africa, Tanzania or Namibia? Is she tribal? There's a difference, y'know

This board is so funny. Right wing southerners who constantly shite on trophy hunting knowing damn good and well they all have someone in their family that hunts. You don’t have to feel sorry for him but just know hunting is hunting. Theres nothing wrong with a man who’s made good money in his life going on an African or Alaskan big game hunt if that’s what he enjoys. Would you say, “I just don’t feel sorry for those people” if someone went on a European vacation and got kidnapped? Because that’s basically what you’re doing, shaming someone for having a hobby
