Looks very bomb-like to me. Looks nothing like a clock. How is this any different than bringing a fake gun to school?

I don't know really know anything about bombs, but bomb isn't the first thing I think when I see that. It just looks like a circuit board to me. It could belong to anything. I would need to see it attached to something that looks like explosive material to think bomb, like a metal tube, some kind of container, or something that looks like clay (what c4 looks like in the movies), or dynamite.

It looks EXACTLY like a homemade digital clock! Here's a few pictures of clocks built with Arduino boards.
The only difference is that he didn't use an "easy to use" kit like the Arduino. Keep in mind, these are done with kits made to be "clean" and easy. Yet, even when done well for a professional photo like that last one, they still look shitty and that teacher would have thought "bomb" all the same. Just because he used shitty parts, likely because he's 14 and can't just drop 100 bucks to make a clock, doesn't mean that the device is any more nefarious.
It's not anything nearly like bringing a fake gun to school. When you bring a fake gun to school, you're bringing a fake weapon to school. This kid likely never even thought of the fact that it would look like a bomb and get in trouble. He probably thought he'd show some of his friends who also probably enjoy tinkering with electronics and get some nerd street cred. My intro to Electrical Engineering labs alone had breadboard setups and shite that looked just as "scary" as this, and the difference was that in the labs people would mess up constantly and start filling the room up with smoke adding an actual element of danger to the situation.
Seriously, this is a ridiculous argument. Anyone who has worked with electronics can tell you that that looks like the digital clock that a 14 year old would make. I would love to see how any clock any of you would make would turn out.

However, why is he bringing a home made clock to school to begin with? It's not some sort of project they were suppose to do? I understand he is supposedly just some nerd and wanted to show his teacher?? That still seems odd.. How many other students have done this? Just seems odd, did he ask the teacher first prior to bringing it?

I still show people cool things I program or build, and I'm 26 years old. There's nothing odd about a kid who is excited to show off something that he worked hard on. It seems more strange because it's hard for people to believe that a 14 year old kid just spent his time learning to build something like this and building it instead of playing Minecraft or beating off.
This bothers me so much because I did stuff like this when I was younger, and I was always acknowledged and rewarded for it. I was always told to keep it up, and even when I was doing normal kid and teenager bullshite, I would get a pass on a lot of my stupidity because I was considered a good kid with a great future. This kid did nothing outside of build something neat on his own.
Everyone in this situation has some meaning they want to apply to it, some narrative they want it to fit, or some personal qualm they want to make it about EXCEPT for this kid. He just wanted to make a clock and show his teacher what he'd done. Everyone else, including myself, has included other narratives and made it about something more.

Did you completely ignore the white kid, Logan Fairbanks, getting invited to the White House TWO MONTHS AGO for standing up to bullies on YouTube after being tortured in comments on videos he made? This is something they have continued to do to encourage kids that are doing the right things in life.
If you are arrested for something like this, it tells kids that building things like that is not a good thing. It sends the message that learning how to build these sorts of things makes you a terrorist suspect. Inviting this kid to the White House is a message that he was doing nothing wrong. If there was anything remotely shady about this, that kid would be underground being interrogated right now, and the media would have covered it all up.

I used to bring a lot of extra curricular stuff to school to show the teachers I considered mentors. I was part of an oddessy of the mind group and we build balsa structures that weight 13 grams and could hold over a thousand pounds.
