His father, Mohamed ElHassan Mohamed, is a fascinating figure in his own right. He's a Sudanese immigrant who has twice declared himself a presidential candidate in Sudan.
You don't find the date of this kid bringing in this device a little unnerving and specifically without the schools prior knowledge?

This situation is disgusting. Period. I can't put into words how much this hurts to see this happen in a nation where you're supposed to be encouraged to reach for the stars and do something great. The kid has a fricking NASA t-shirt on and spends his days doing something productive and interesting. He probably has dreams of working there one day. He likely has aspirations and dreams that are beyond becoming a part of some petty nonsense. He shouldn't have his enthusiasm crushed because of some clown bullshite like this. Take it seriously, but don't treat him like a god damned terrorist.
This kid deserves way better than this shite. The whole "He would only say it's a clock. Not what it was for, why he made it, or anything!" nonsense from the police only pisses me off more. This kid shouldn't have to say "It tells you the time. I made it to tell time and do something fun and productive with my time." He made a fricking clock. It's not rocket science.

Have you ever worked with electronics in your life? This looks like every clock that every aspiring engineer or nerdy tinkerer has ever made. If this kid's suspicious, we better start raiding Electrical Engineering departments at universities with all of the breadboards and shitty wiring they have!
It'd be one thing if people admitted that it was ignorance that caused this, and it's a regrettable situation. Instead, people would rather let their stupidity or lack of knowledge on the subject drive them to make comments justifying this sort of thing. It's unjustifiable to treat this child like this. Period. I always had shite like that with me growing up, but I was white so I never had an issue. By this logic, everyone who tinkers with computers or electronics should be cuffed and interrogated.

Oh, so us about 80 years ago? Cool. I also forgot that the most extreme cases that we hear about in the media, who by the way would NEVER have an agenda or try to convince us of anything, are the standard for all Muslims worldwide. There are MANY people of the Muslim faith who condemn this, but I doubt you know many of them to ask or know. I know several who are very openly angry because of the situations in their home countries and how awful it makes the rest of them look. That said, this discussion is not why I'm here.
I'm here because this child should not have to suffer for taking pride in something he built that poses no threat whatsoever to anyone. This child should be held as an example for what hard work and a desire to learn can do for someone. Instead, he's treated like a criminal. Absolutely ridiculous.
