I'll bet at least 80% of you are misinformed.

It's something Jeb! came up with to help Obama brainwash our youth.

Good, creative teachers hate common core, while the ones who just want a job don't give a shite.

There was a great thread a couple weeks ago on common core. You are right, the truth is that most people don't research things themselves, listen to political idiots, and don't read news articles, instead relying solely on an attention grabbing title.

Common core is an educational framework that focuses more on critical thinking than rote memorization.
Implementing common core seems to have been more difficult on the teachers than the students.
I'm a fan.

That's not completely true. Common Core is a set of standards which is fine. All 4th graders need to know how to multiply. There is nothing wrong with setting standards like this. People are up in arms about the "new math" which doesn't have to be taught. The CC model allows districts to pick their own way for kids to meet the standards. If your child's district is teaching new math, sucks for yall, but not everyone is using it.
1 part of the CC new Math is actually good in that it presents student with more real life situations. For example, I taught a lesson last week in 6th grade on manipulating variables in equations. The final project for the mini-unit went through a situation where a girl was painting her room and had to find out how much paint she needed. It went through the process of measuring the room, subtracting for Windows's and doors, and even calculating how many paint can she would need along with the cost. I really don't know why people hate it so much.

Common core is meant to give less intelligent kids the same understanding of math that smart kids have. If you give a word problem to both sets of kids, the dumb kids might tell you the answer, but they won't actually understand what it means. They don't have a tangible understanding of what math means. Common core is a way of trying to explain that to them. From what I've seen, it's still way over their heads.
The other use of common core is the 'common' aspect of it. Everyone has to use it, no choice in the matter. It's a way for government to standardize education and run it like an assembly line. Ideally you teach every kid this way and it works. But that's not how education works. Different kids need to learn in different ways, and the best way to do that is more individualized teaching. Smaller class sizes with more attention for each student and more creative teachers that can change their lesson plans to fit the needs of their students is the best way to teach

I don't understand all the hate with CC my child has no problems with it at all but it might be because it was started from the beginning of his learning.

The largest problem I've seen and been involved with at the school board and curriculum level is how much of it never took into count the age appropriateness of the children being taught. No one in development ever took into account the level of the learners and thus never designed it on step building based on the development mentally of the learners. This is most apparent in the math portion of the elementary curriculum.
