My kids have for a few years. Their mom (my ex) still gets them presents but like giving them cash and they like it.

Sucks for teens and kids to want only cash, but I need cash to pay off bills.

I remember when I was a teen and I would ask for cash on my bday and Christmas.

If you give them cash, that means they will request less money after Christmas for things like food or entertainment money during school break. Saves you a little than some presents they wont play with and still give them money to go to Canes and the Movies.

The hell are you talking about? I was wanting cash from my parents 25 years ago.

Because most kids these days, mine included, get shite all year long that they don't necessarily need. I thank my wife for that bullshite all the time. So come Christmas time, there's never anything they've been waiting on, so they just say "cash". I hate that, and i never just give my kids cash.
I never really buy myself anything ever, so my wife actually has things to get me for birthday, fathers day, Christmas.

Our kids have a running 'Wish List' note on their phone that is shared with us. They might get cash from the aunts, but for the most part, it's gifts from the list that they keep updated, especially around birthday/Christmas. My 13 year old daughter's list was all Lulu/Aviator Nation
, so she had to add a few more reasonable requests.
I would love to scale down Christmas and have been trying to do so since the kids were little- we never had huge Christmases growing up. Wife's parents are divorced and her mother has a spending problem, so their Christmas was always over the top. Last night, we were discussing stocking stuffers. She was ready to spend money on 'stuff' just so they had something in their stockings. I told her that they are teenagers, and don't need more crap just to have a stocking full of stuff. She didn't like that answer

People 25 and under are less interested in having “things” and more in experiences. This is overall a good thing.
That’s not to say you have to give them cash, but they’d rather have money to go do something than some plastic bullshite that’ll sit in a corner.

The SK (16) just wants gift cards. I’m forcibly getting her shite I know she needs outside of that.

Can’t ask for only fans subs for the Holliday.

Only time I've ever asked for or gotten cash from parents was to help pay for part of a specific large purchase they knew about (like BCS tickets). Luckily my kids are too young for that now, but I hope we don't let it become a thing when they are older.

Incorrect. Look at the exception for life time rules.

I did that years ago when they were growing up. That way they can buy what they want and you don't have to head out trying to find something they likely won't wear or use.

Hey, frickwits,(ETA: meaning the kids) you spend enough time on Youtube and SnapChat, you can spend 20 minutes setting up an Amazon wishlist.
My 10 year old asked for gift cards, I told her to get lost. Then she asked for makeup, I told her I wasn't buying that shite either, and she needed to actually give me a list of stuff to actually buy.

Cash and gift cards are not socially acceptable gifts for Christmas. CDs, bonds that mature after a recipient turns 18, especially I-bonds when the interest rate is high, and mutual funds are the best alternative for those requesting either cash or gift cards for Christmas.

I would hate you for about 5 years, then respect and hold you in high regard for the rest of my years.
