Yet everybody says that arming teachers is going to instantly lead to bad outcomes

Arming teachers in a heavy responsible gun owner state like Texas is clearly different than a place like California.

Less gun incidents than unarmed schools.

I'd say that's not because 17% of schools in Texas have armed teachers.

That was a literal accident. Compared to this case where the teacher deliberately fired his weapon.

Both are unacceptable from a trained officer. Both can happen if we arm teachers. Some seem to think people become impervious to dumb decisions and acting unsafely just because they're trained.

17% of Texas is larger than most states.

But it's a speck compared to the amount of schools nationwide. And it's a small, very specific sample size.

The statistics are overwhelming not arming our teachers is killing our kids

In the last month nationwide
Gun related incidents in districts with no sanctioned armed teachers-2

Gun related incidents in districts with sanctioned armed teachers-0

This doesn't solve the mental health issue. You have crazy teachers out there sleeping with 12 year olds, cursing students out, and even some physically abuses others by fighting. BUT you want to give them a readily available firearm and have their mental state to be the deciding factor in someone's life

It’s clear arming teachers with firearms will not be the answer.

I know many teachers that have no business trying to educate youth, let alone be anywhere near a gun.

There are valid arguments against arming teachers. This is not one of them.

Great. Don't let them have a gun. Where has anyone argued they every teacher should be made to have a gun?

A lot of threads in the immediate aftermath of the Florida school shooting.

If he was properly trained he would have known to put his hand over the muzzle before taking the test shot.

this is all fishy.

But no one at the school checked to make sure that all of the students were uninjured, Gonzales said. The school day resumed as normal, and Seaside Police Department officers launched an investigation.

The 17-year-old boy's parents were shocked when he returned home with blood on his shirt and bullet fragments in his neck. The student's parents rushed him to a hospital for X-rays.

"He's shaken up, but he's going to be OK," Gonzales told KSBW. "I'm just pretty upset that no one told us anything and we had to call the police ourselves to report it."
so is this.

Yea, it is really weird. What type of ceiling do those schools have for starters?

So this teacher brought a gun to where they are not allowed and it "went off" while he was checking to see if it was loaded, illegally teaching "gun safety" for no apparent reason. And just in time for the student walkout.

Yeah, orchestrated.

No these are not the folks you want armed in schools.
It's not? A trained reserve officer? I'm sure if vetted he turns out clean and yet is still a complete fricking moron.

Don't even try to read past what really happened here--an individual trained in the proper handling of firearms sent 3 students to the hospital because he ignored his training. That's why teachers can't carry firearms at school. Seal it, stamp it, and mail that bitch!!!

Unacceptable. That's something that needs to be checked before you bring a gun into a classroom full of students.

I'll bet CNN is pissed it wasn't four students so they could add it to the mass school shooting counter.
