The teacher had just told the class that he wanted to make sure his gun wasn't loaded, when the gun fired, according to Gonzales.

I have literally never heard of anything this fricking stupid in my life. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY has ever taught anybody to pull the trigger to check if the gun is loaded. My only wish is that I wish this dumbass would've accidentally shot himself so he won't reproduce and create other dumbasses.

The EXACT type of people that everyone is saying we should arm and put in schools.
i mean, this is what we want don't we? we want 'experienced' personnel supposedly capable of handling firearms, not 80 year old Ms. Babineaux who knows nothing of it, or 24 year old Ms. Young whos too frail and weak to even hold up a firearm.

we want responsible teaching adults handling our firearms at school.

now i understand that this is an isolated incident, but don't think that these types of incidents won't multiply in numbers after we start arming them.

Complete fluke. Could have killed people in 5 states, but the warhead did not detonate. Killed only one.

Nuclear warheads aren’t nitroglycerin or even TNT. You can’t set them off by fire or explosion.

The goal posts have now shifted to "well this guy wasn't trained well enough and the department should be punished."

And what if he was? Passing the training doesn't mean you won't do something wrong later on. We have retraining in almost every industry after a mistake is made, including police officers.

They're not supposed to, and this one did not, but experts consulted on the story said it could have damned well gone off under the circumstances.

It was a massive explosion of a volatile fuel that had enough power to send that rocket to Moscow.

The AF boys in the area were damn sure puckered about it.

Given past history, California, and the fact that the crux of the situation is that he deliberately pulled the trigger to check to see it was loaded, shies away from that.

At worse, tin foil hat accusations that he was trying to “start a dialogue”

A best, sheer negligence. It wasn’t an accident. It was a deliberate choice and act to discharge a firearm.

Oh really? Has this happened in Texas where there are many isds that have armed teachers? No. I grew up in a private school with an armed teacher-never happened.

In California at a school with an apparently unsanctioneds armed teacher teaching an unsanctioned “gun safety” course and doesn’t know how to unload his firearm?

Something is fishy and I’m one to make fun of “false flags”

Yeah just like the police officer in another posters link that shot himself in the leg. Do you really think ever single fun carrying teacher will be "properly" trained? You can't be that delusional.
Also how do you know this guy wasn't properly trained? You assume this, as I can read facts that he shot inside a classroom. Who did this guy teach that is now a gun carrying individual? But let's overlook all that and just call this an isolated incident bc this 1 guy was not trained to your standard. Idiot

I don’t know maybe because he shot his gun to make sure it wasn’t loaded

This.

The whole "bullet fragments to the neck" is where they showed their hand.

17% of all districts. Not that many. Arming more teachers means more opportunities for stories like this.

And mass school shootings don't really happen in Texas though for whatever reason, outside of the UT tower.

17% of Texas districts is a LOT of teachers with guns. Nothing has happened. Yet everybody says that arming teachers is going to instantly lead to bad outcomes. Less gun incidents than unarmed schools.

That was a literal accident. Compared to this case where the teacher deliberately fired his weapon.

Be aside from all that.

You do realize the purpose of the proposal isn’t to have gun show and tells like the cop and the teacher were doing.

Just to have something to defend themselves with. Ideally, there is NO sign which teachers are armed and therefore it should NEVER be shown during class time.

It's like people don't understand how large numbers work. There are roughly 100,000 public schools in this country. If there is at least one armed teacher at each school, someone will eventually kill an innocent kid. Someone will probably stop a violent crime too, but it shouldn't be so difficult to realize they'll kill someone who is innocent too.

17% of Texas is larger than most states.

You are typically good and on point. So come on, man.
