About a yr ago I moved my daughter into a rental house. There is actually three units in one house.

My daughter told me she always pays here rent in cash because her landlord gives her discount if she pays cash.

In a conversion last summer with one of the other tenants (a couple) they told my daughter they also pay cash for a discount.

The rental house also has a pool and towards the end of last summer the landlord threw a small pool party and probably had too much to drink and told my daughter the reasoning for her paying cash was to avoid income taxes on the rentals.

This is in San Diego, Calif.

Curious if there is any repercussions for this or a way to turn him in? Just pisses me off for being an honest tax payer for over 40 plus yrs.

So the guy gives your daughter a discount and you want to turn him in? Don’t be an a-hole.

No real way to turn him in easily.

At best, he gets an audit and they check the books closely for inconsistencies.

The IRS actually has a form to turn someone in for tax fraud , that being said, I wouldn't turn anyone in based on a buzzed conversation at a pool party. I would require, and I'm sure the IRS as well, a tad more evidence

You can turn him in by calling 1-800-IMA-KAREN.

We have a contender for trashiest thread of 2021 so far.

Do you have so few problems if your own that you feel to need to get involved with your daughters landlord tax issues?

How much do you think he’s really getting out of paying? After his deductions he’s probably only making a small profit, unless he has multiple units, but still why would you even consider turning someone in?

Do you pay your housekeeper in cash? Lawn boy? Pool guy? Handyman? All cash right?

What about your babysitter? Are you going to turn them all in or do you make them fill out a W-9?

You’re a good citizen. Over Christmas I saw my neighbor had AT LEAST over 10 people at his house on Christmas Day! AT LEAST 5 OF THEM WERE CHILDREN! So reckless and irresponsible. I called the police and they broke it up. Called social services the next day and reported the incident.

Good for them. People need to stop paying taxes until it isn’t completely wasted on complete bs

If anyone can get away with it more power to them
