State troopers have learned that McDougal was employed by Blann Trucking Company of Hampton, the owner of the vehicle that was carrying ammonium nitrate from El Dorado to Texarkana.
Area fire department personnel were notified about 6:40 AM today that the truck brakes of the commercial carrier truck believed to be driven by McDougal were on fire and the driver was attempting to extinguish the blaze.
The first fire department personnel on the scene had begun to evacuate residents who live in the area and reportedly witnessed McDougal return to the truck when it exploded.
The roadway remains closed as the result of a large hole caused by the explosion that stretches across the highway.

I live about 40-45 miles from the accident and we felt the explosion while getting the kids ready for school.

Google Highland Industrial Park in Camden. It is a defense contractor site that does lots of explosive and munitions work. There have been multiple major industrial accident explosions including one in 2001 that I went up to as part of an investigative team.
An entire explosives bunker detonated and left a crater the size of a football field in the ground. It went so deep that it went into the water table so that the bottom of the crater was a small lake. That area has to be sort of used to this kind of stuff by now.

A quick search revealed several recent explosions, including one this past December that killed 1 person. Looks like that 2001 incident happened in a bunker storing old munitions, more recent explosions involved manufacturing of new ordinance.
Camden isn’t too far away from the old Louisiana Army Ammunition plant outside Bossier. Camp Minden had two bunkers explode in recent years. Several executives of the private company responsible recently pleaded guilty for their role.
I bet people near the Ark/La state line felt explosions from both of these places.

I was fully prepared to come make some snarky arse comment but Jesus man. This is insane. I’m glad only the driver was killed because if that happened anywhere near a population it could have been so much worse
