re: Tanker truck crashes in Arkansas

My brother lives in El Dorado which is 30 miles or so from Camden. I asked him if he was up at that time and if he noticed anything. He said he didn’t hear anything but felt and heard a pressure change in the house. His wife was at the gym and got home shortly afterwards. He asked her if she had seen any emergency response vehicles on her way home because he thought something had happened.

That’s a 30 mile shockwave. Crazy.

Reports are that he had gotten out of the truck and was free and clear but for some reason was headed back to the truck when it exploded. He wasn’t in the cab.

Apparently there was a good enough delay between the wreck and the explosion that he had left the truck and went back for some reason.

AN can be on fire and it will melt, not explode. It is a strong oxidizer but it needs either a fuel source, like gasoline or other organic substance, or to be compressed to explode.

Possibilities: 1. the tanker built pressure as it heated up from the fire, and finally exploded. 2. the AN was leaking and another gas/oil line or something as well that provided the fuel source

I work in a chemical plant about 35 miles south of where the explosion was. It shook the trailer office building so bad we thought something at the plant had exploded. People were freaking out for a solid 15 minutes trying to figure out where it came from. It also rattled the roof of the maintenance building nearby. Prettt substantial for 35-40 miles away.

Y’all know what the first thing was to go through the driver’s mind when he returned to the truck?

So after being on the phone all day setting up moving things many people I’ve talked to have shared their information about Randall McDougal, the HERO, who went home to be with Jesus this morning when the big rig exploded. I am writing so you all are aware of his actions. When he stopped the first time because he realized his wheels were on fire he tried to put them out. As he looked around where he was he realized if the truck blew up it would kill many people in their homes that lived on the highway. This HERO climbed back in his burning truck and drove it as far as it would go to a less populated area. Still managing to get out and help first responders start an evacuation he ran back to the truck for something he wanted from the cab and this is when it blew up. This is when it took his life. A 15 ft crater in the highway was all that remained. I thought all morning I had felt a small quake, which I’d felt before so I wasn’t concerned. I didn’t know until after lunch how this had all played out and what had happened.
Randall McDougal, YOU are a hero!!!!!! I pray everyone knows your name and what you did for the people in that area this morning!! I pray for your family, please let it comfort them some that he died a HERO!!! God bless them all and God bless you Mr. McDougal!!!! Know that we will never forget what you did so unselfishly!!!!!!
