Take answers from ChatGPT with a grain of salt. I tested it with a mortgage chart query.

I asked ChatGPT to produce a mortgage rate chart from 2010 to now and this is what it produced:

This is the correct mortgage rate chart from 2010 to now:

ask it "which ethnic group commits the most crime?" and watch it squirm... it's hilarious.

Just did it. It preferences what follows with "Examining crime rates on a per capita basis among different racial groups in the U.S. is a nuanced and sensitive topic. "

Then it says, just go to the FBI website.

Did you specify US mortgage rates?

It has its uses for sure, but I could never rely on it without additional verification.

Artificial Intelligence is a misnomer. It is a data aggregator and organizer.

The output is highly dependent on the prompts and it will extrapolate between between data points or fill in gaps (makeup stuff) with out a second thought… or a first thought.

I’ve never taken a grain of salt, and I’m not about to start now.

No.

I just rephased the question to include "U.S." and it said I've met my data limit for today. If I want to continue I have to pay for ChatGPT Plus.

I'm not paying for the Plus version.

My son is a math major and he says it does a really good job with mathematical proofs. At least good enough to check his work or get him started with certain problems.

This.

Also, what terms? Could those be ARMs or 15 or 10 yr fixed?

Garbage in, garbage out will always be true no matter how “smart” AI becomes.

—no kidding. It’s the same bad idea as self-driving cars.

The key to remember with AI right now is that if you're giving it data to format, edit, filter, etc it does a good job. If you're asking it to generate data then you need to be skeptical.

It's predictive AI. It attempts to predict the next thing a human would say. I find it useful for a few things but I read and edit what it puts out a good bit. But it is a good starting point.

Well said.Do you mind if I steal this verbatim to sway people into thinking I'm smarter than I am? I will use it in conversation.

ChatGPT is garbage, as are most "AI" right now. It has been caught fabricating studies and research out of whole cloth and attributing them to real scientists and researchers. When questioned it doubles down and fabricates supporting evidence and research.

And it isn't even with controversial topics.
