and you somehow would up with the dog. What are the special things that dog could do to make you recognize him or her that your old dog did?

I thought my pup was special, the little interesting proclivities she has.

Then I watched untold hours of golden retriever videos on the youtube.

My dog is damn near interchangeable with any golden out there, behavior wise.

My golden Sally is still special to me, though.

Climb the live oak in the back yard while I'm at work. There's nothing like coming home at 5:30 and finding your dog stuck 10 feet up in a tree. That dog was hell bent on catching a squirrel.

Considering he'd retain no knowledge of his previous existence, likely nothing.

Had to put our dog down several years ago after she developed cancer. When she was a puppy, she would sleep with her head jammed in my shoe all the time.

A couple of years later, we brought home a new puppy and the night we brought her home, the new puppy fell asleep with her head jammed in my shoe. Only did it once, and never did it again.

I realize that a lot of dogs do that, but felt at the time that something was coming through.

I'd say

'Let me take your picture.' (He would sit up straight and pose)

'I LOVE the puppy' (he would start to grumble)

There is one more thing I could do but I would have to have to hold him like a baby.

Go apeshit at 4:16am when she hears the neighbor close their truck door when leaving for work.
Like she did two mornings ago.

I'm not going to tell my reincarnated dog he can't do that, but you can.
