re: Garmin watch people!

I’ve got an older instinct and I use “cardio” for pretty much everything except for running or swimming
Third for Dr Wag - he was our vet several years ago when we lived in BR but always took a conservative approach (which was greatly appreciated) with our lab. Never pushy on tests or meds like others have suggested.
Had to put our dog down several years ago after she developed cancer. When she was a puppy, she would sleep with her head jammed in my shoe all the time.

A couple of years later, we brought home a new puppy and the night we brought her home, the new puppy fell asleep with her head jammed in my shoe. Only did it once, and never did it again.

I realize that a lot of dogs do that, but felt at the time that something was coming through.
This probably isn’t widely known but a corner isn’t a border. There are judicial decisions in at least a few states to that effect - mostly dealing with trespass.

I don’t know what the answer is
Not that I’m aware of. House is about 9 years old - spot this is occurring isn’t in spot that gets a ton of runoff from the roof or anything like that

Hole developed next to slab foundation

Posted by mjp504 on 5/5/25 at 1:29 pm
Not sure where the hole came from - it could be a critter - we have rabbits and armadillos in the neighborhood - but I don’t see dirt next to the hole to evidence a critter.

The hole is about 2 feet wide along the slab and about 8 inches wide from the slab into the yard. It’s about 2 feet deep and seems to be deepest at an angle - so not straight down. The hole does not go below the slab

At any rate, is this a fill the hole up with sand/dirt - or do I need to reach out to foundation experts.

ETA- I put something over the hole to test it if an animal was using it. The “cover” hasn’t moved and the hole doesn’t appear to have changed over the course of a couple of weeks

Thanks for the help

re: Machine based program

I’m not dead set on machines necessarily, but thinking that it could give some of my joints a break (perhaps) from doing heavy (for me) compound lifts for the last couple of years. I figure the machine lifts are going to be more isolated to muscle groups than some of the barbell lifts are. And in turn, maybe that will be easier on the joints.

Adding in some real flexibility and core strengthening sessions would help too.

Gotcha. I really like the PPSA programming. I guess I’m wondering if there is anything similar but using machines.

Cut probably, but maintain as much as I can. I don’t have a problem with getting adequate protein

Machine based program

Posted by mjp504 on 4/3/25 at 1:12 pm
I’ve been doing PPSA programs for the last two years and have seen decent results (would be significantly better if diet was better). At any rate, I am beat down and growing tired of all of the barbell lifts and am thinking maybe a month or so of machine lifts might do me good.

Any recommendations for a good program that utilizes machines? Is my reasoning flawed?
I’ve used Tajima Direct. They do any make/model of sunglasses and honestly, I find their lenses superior to a lot of the major brands as far as clarity, polarization, and scratch resistance etc.

Crazy - I am close by and heard nothing about this until you shared your story. We were definitely riding around in the area before midnight with the kids.

Glad you and your wife are ok and they busted this crackhead. Do not need that kinda crap in the area
Thanks for sharing the location - around what time did this happen?
I’ve had the instinct 1 now for 3 or 4 years. It’s perfect - has all the data without all the bells and whistles.

I do think I’m going to upgrade to the 2 before too long for the improved HR sensor and some extra features.

I had a Fitbit before and this obviously blows that out do the water. My wife has gone through 2 or 3 Apple Watches and they all crapped out - she now has a Garmin forerunner (I think) and has loves it

Mine is the same. High drive to hunt and can go forever, but once in the house she chills out quick

I got a girl puppy from Huntfield last year. She is hands down the easiest lab I’ve ever dealt with. She can be wild like a puppy normally is but pretty chill most of the time and has been great with the kids. It does not take much to get her to obey either, and she only wants to do right by me.

The only thing that is different from other labs I’ve had is 1) she was hesitant to get in the pond, but after some coaxing and confidence she now swims great; and 2) now that she’s full grown, she’s not a food nut like my previous labs. I thought something was wrong with her for the longest time but she just doesn’t have to eat and isn’t crazy if she hasn’t.

She’s right at 50 lbs and supremely athletic. Overall 10/10

Adjustable Dumbells

I searched the board to see if there has been a discussion on different brands but did not find one. I did find that a lot of folks bought the powerblocks.

I am looking for a set that can go up to at least 80lbs and willing to consider any recommended brand. The power blocks look like they are nice, bu I am wondering if the shape of them gets in the way. I see advertisements for Smrtft on Facebook all the time. From a looks standpoint, it’s what I am looking for but don’t know anyone that has gotten them.

Any recommendations?

I have - we all remember the meal but can’t remember the source or the exact recipe. The issue ( if it was indeed La sportsman) probably got tossed not long after

I actually found this one this morning and it is the closest one I’ve found to what I remember. Seems this one could be doctored up some to add a little kick - I wish I could remember more about the dish. I just remember that it was really good. Thanks for sending!

I appreciate the link. Unfortunately, their archived recipes dont go back far enough. This is probably 2012 or so

Looking for a fish recipe

Posted by mjp504 on 6/19/24 at 2:09 pm
Probably 10-12 years ago, maybe a little more, me and a buddy of mine got into some trout in big lake. That night his dad cooked from a recipe I recall him saying he found in Louisiana sportsman. It was trout filets on a sheet pan and had heavy cream, butter, maybe red onions and lemon (at least). It was all put together on the sheet pan and baked. Served over baked potatoes and it was delicious. I’ve never been able to find the recipe and I’m wondering if anyone has any similar recipe or maybe happens to know what I’m talking about. Never occurred to me to ask the great Food and Drink board before now
