Again, don’t disagree with you at all. Louisiana has a long way to go, and I hope it gets there someday. I’m not optimistic, but I have hope.

But this isn’t new knowledge. You’re beating a dead horse.

I think you’ve done your part by starting tens of threads about Louisiana’s problems. Maybe sit a couple plays out.

It's hard when Texas is right next door and is so attractive to people. It's everything Louisiana should aspire to be economically, and Houston is as close to New Orleans and Baton Rouge as cities in North Louisiana are to New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

True.

We need to do what they did in the Caribbean. Bring in eastern europeans to work the restaurants, strip clubs, casinos, etc and the $$$$ will come flowing in.

Or that you had about 2000 employees paying taxes and buying shite in br one day and then they move to Georgia the next.

Yeah, about every single business would feel the hit of something like that.

it amazes me when people say 'but you got no culture!!!!' when comparing the 2. Culture's not gonna put many high paying jobs on the table for the talent pool.

When you have very few cards to play, you have to play them often.

We can only beat our chests with “yaw yaw gumbo, cher” every so often. Yes, we have good food here and New Orleans has a unique culture but you can get good food in just about every state in the US.

We have to offer people something to move here for aside from good food.

Don’t tell that to people from Louisiana. Anywhere outside the south only serves bland food. That’s basically a fact.

And we’re falling significantly behind economically and educationally. We’re dead last in almost every category and calling it out should be perceived as bashing, but rather recognizing that we have some issues that we desperately need to correct.

I moved out of the state of year ago because I was tired of O&G (made it through three rounds of layoffs and wasn't waiting anymore). I was lucky enough to get a PM job in the Wastewater field.

But I agree with you and the first step is to take out the good old boy Network. And it's on our generation (mid 30 something) that when we get in power, we disassemble the good old boy Network.

If I ever move back to Louisiana I would hope that could be done.

If you don’t like it there, move. It sounds complicated, but it’s really not.

For some it isn’t complicated, and I’d agree, move someplace that adds value to your life, but for others it is quite complicated, depending upon circumstances with family and such. It’s just not a one size fits all answer. If it were, this place would have evacuated years ago.

Is it harder for some than for others? Of course. If you need to care of a family member, it’s definitely not easy. I get that.

But the excuse of “my whole family is here” is weak, IMO. Not that you were asserting that, it’s just a common excuse.

My entire family is in Louisiana, somehow we have remained in contact and still have strong relationships. Honestly, if I can make the move, anyone can. That’s in no way a brag. I never saw myself leaving LA, and moved somewhere that I literally knew no one. It was challenging at first, but now I couldn’t be happier.

Same exact situation here. I was the first person on my dad's side of the family to ever leave the state.

It takes a little bit of boldness and some guts to move but sometimes we need that.

Nice sermon...20 years too late
Louisiana diversified away from oil and gas many years ago. It wasn’t due to wise councilling like yours but because almost every oil and gas company left. Now, we have an even more robust tourism industry; we have a movie industry; we have a very underrated tech industry; the medical industry is booming; and of course farming, manufacturing, and the oil and gas service industry are with us to the extent they were before. Welcome to 2018

I think you may be a literal retard with this take.
