Sounds about right. Educate and train them and then let him be “someone else’s problem” once he’s done.
God forbid he sticks around, gets a job, and makes Louisiana slightly better.

Keep fighting the good fight. Let me know when you gather all the community leaders and top business men of the state to Economic Summit. I’ll be sitting on the front row.
I agree with some of what you said to a degree, but damn man, your threads are as bad as my pit bull threads.

Incorrect. I got my BS in two years and was using the rest of my GI bill (4 years) to get my second BS, which I have already completed. No gov assistance, just my military GI bill which I used while being a full-time employee.

Where do you think GI bill money comes from?

Not the state government so completely irrelevant.

And you can't tax your way to prosperity!

I didn't realize we were talking about TOPS

I’m pretty sure I earned my college with the 2 deployments I did, man. Let’s not argue on that one.

I think TOPS was very well intentioned. Keep people in the state that need to stay there.
But there was zero thought behind what would happen once they got their degree. Well may not zero thought, I wasn’t privy to the meetings, but clearly not enough.

The federal government? Seriously man, quit while you’re behind.

TOPS is good but the minimum GPA and ACT scores need to be raised drastically

Are you retarded or just trying to be dense? I hope for your sake it's the latter.
You could actually make a decent argument that using a GI bill in the state is good for the state. Educates a resident at no cost.

Go look up the definition of retail again dumbass

So now you’re saying the federal government (along with the states’ assistance) shouldn’t help subsidize education for the military?
Yeah, they didn’t do a damn thing to earn that help. Solid argument. I promise a lot of people here will agree with you.

100%. You’ll never hear me argue otherwise. I don’t think that would solve the issue of graduates leaving after the free education, though.

TOPS wasn't around when I started college but tuition was comparatively inexpensive than where it is today.
There has been some rumblings during the recent budget talks about requiring TOPS recipients to repay part of the award if they leave the state in the first few years after college. I'm not sure how they can enforce that, particularly if the jobs in certain fields are basically non-existent in LA. There aren't exactly very many investment banker jobs in Baton Rouge or NOLA.

I don’t even know how to respond to what he said lol. I qualified for TOPS but instead of using state money, I joined the military and let that pay for college. Louisiana provides college assistance to individuals for simply meeting demographic standards and this guy is attempting to shite on me for using the GI bill?

I would like to see some manufacturing facilities put here. You have a big employment pool.

Not the states problem. They shouldn't be in the business of just handing out free money and getting no return on the investment.
