You're typing out the raw ratio and they tacking on a % symbol.

38k/29mm is .0013, which in % terms is .13%

Over 80% of the people who will get Coronavirus will show minor symptoms or no symptoms at all - which makes it much easier to spread.

This keeps getting repeated and it is misleading at best. 80% of confirmed cases do NOT require being hospitalized. That 80% ranges from asymptomatic to suffering from severe flu symptoms. Of those being hospitalized, there is strong evidence people that who are 'recovered' are suffering damage to their lungs.

If this turns out to have a mortality rate much lower than SARS, will you all go back to work?

I don't think anyone ever claimed it had a higher fatality rate than SARS. SARS was close to 10%, but not nearly as contagious.

You obviously didn't read the article that OP posted

Some numbers were posted from S. Korea recently. About 30% of the carriers were aged 20-29.

The reason everyone is reacting the way they are is because they are trying to prevent the hospitals from having surge crises. Hospitals have already had them with just the flu this year just last month before coronavirus came into the mix. There aren't enough ICU beds to handle a medium uptick.

So, again. It's about hospital capacity. This has been said over and over.

If its a .5% mortality rate...not really, not by much.

That is just that hotspot. There are other hotspots that have and will be worse.

We handled an extra 300k hospitalizations in less than 9 months thanks to swine flu. Where was the panic?

Can I get the Powerball numbers while you're looking in your crystal ball?

0.5 is the average. There will be areas where it will be “worse” simply because of demographics. Those systems will be strained some yes. It happens with every virus outbreak. Nothing new or unique to this one.

Hospital numbers will also be inflated due to the panic: take Coach Hoiberg. Rushed to hospital to ve diagnosed with common cold. Typical flu recipients will now seek out edical care for fear of it being Corona. Media fear mongers strike again.

You listed one hospital in a city that is a hot bed for homeless people. Skewing the data. Again, an outlier

Lolz. Well, if you live in Louisiana, there are a lot of homeless people, a lot of poor people, a lot of unhealthy/obese people (likely you included), and a lot of hospitals that are already at capacity.

Dream as you may that you are better at interpreting data than all of the respected doctors and institutions currently making recommendations, you likely are not.

I'm not worried about me, I'm worried about my grandfather, my parents, anyone I know over the age of 70 years old.

Louisiana has one of the fastest growing senior populations in the United States. There are legitimate reasons for people to be concerned.

Stop thinking about yourselves and start thinking about those you love who will be vulnerable

The mortality rate for this is likely not much different from swine flu or any other recent scares. Definitely below 1%

Misread a comment, 0.1%, not 0.5%. That is about right for the flu

The NRC reports that half the patients in the ICU may be under 50 because the number of people in that demographic is just relatively bigger than in other countries. It could also be that these numbers are completely representative because there just aren’t that many coronavirus patients in the ICU.

From the article.
