Male secretary?
At first. Yes.
Then office manager. Then head of auditing team. And so on and so forth until I was running the firm.
I was the only young guy who could actually gain the respect of the auditing staff.
Only took 6 months of 6 16s for them to realize I wasn't fricking around

Now it's fricking frowned upon to have a beer at lunch and head back to the office. What a bunch of sissies we have become.
This is all caused by the rise of HR Departments which are typically run by women, busy-bodies, and/or lawyers. All they care about is the appearance of being busy and professional.
It's gone because businessmen and attorneys were getting drunk and having lavish lunches while clients subsidized it because they could bill clients for it. The American public got upset at that idea.
The 3 martini lunch is the epitome of American efficiency. Where else can you get an earful, a bellyful, and a snootful at the same time?

I wish I had been around in those days.

On the soaps when I was a kid, the dad/husband would always come home from work and immediately head to a table with crystal glasses and decanters for a nice pop of straight booze. No cocktails, wine, or beer. Just the straight stuff.

I have Jim and a YETI full of natty light in my office for when my Mexican employees finish cutting grass. Get hammered every night together. Good times
before my OB purchase i'd have some mic ultras on ice for the mexicans who cut my yard and hang out & shoot the shite with them.
they'd rather drink a mic ultra than any of the mexican beers which is fine by me because its way cheaper.

What's the point of a decanter for liquor? is it just for looks?

Unfortunately people don't drink as much as they used to in the business setting. Attorney's in the 80's were having 3 martini lunches on the reg and returning to work. Now it's fricking frowned upon to have a beer at lunch and head back to the office. What a bunch of sissies we have become.
Amen to that. And coke too.

No shite, I can't even down a few beers in my car at lunch without some a-hole telling HR on me.

I've worked in one office where my boss and the executive assistant kept stuff in their desk drawers or credenzas, but the drinking was always closed door, never for meetings.

I resigned from my last job when I attended a board meeting and they whipped out liqour. It was a not for profit that helped disabled and elderly immigrants.

Watching Mad Men made me want to do this all the time
