I went to school with Jeff. He has worked at STPSO for a long time. Wondering what went on behind the scenes to prompt this. The generic statement makes it pretty clear this wasn’t a planned retirement.

quote:

Chief Deputy Jeff Boehm has announced his retirement, effective June 22, 2026. After careful consideration, Boehm determined that stepping aside at this time is in the best interest of the agency and the deputies who serve the citizens of St. Tammany Parish each day.

"It has been an honor to serve alongside the dedicated men and women of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office," Boehm said. "This decision was not made lightly, but I believe it is the right one for the agency at this time. My priority has always been the success of this organization and the deputies who serve our community every day. I am confident they will continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and service, and I wish the agency nothing but success moving forward."

He becomes sheriff when Randy resigns, which he does not want.

Sheriff Randy Smith turned himself in last week after he was accused of attacking a man at a Madisonville restaurant.

quote:

According to the arrest warrant, Couvillion told investigators he was sitting at the bar when Smith allegedly grabbed him from behind, placed him in a chokehold, threw him to the floor, punched and kicked him, and threatened to kill him.

Records show Couvillion was taken to a hospital and state he suffered a concussion and displaced front teeth.

He couldn’t turn it down and stay in his current position?

Maybe he thinks Randy should resign and doesn't want to go down with a sinking ship? Or maybe there's bad stuff going to come out about him too? Or is he resigning now so he can distance himself and run for sheriff? I don't know anything about him so I'm just throwing out theories.

Any more to this story? Like why did he attack Couvillion? Did they have history or was he just sitting at the bar having a beer when it happened.

Is there more to the story?

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith allegedly attacked local podcaster Bobby Couvillion because he was angry about months of online criticism and unsubstantiated claims Couvillion had made against him.

In a public statement, Sheriff Smith apologized for his actions but claimed he "ignored hundreds of personal attacks directed at me by an individual who hides behind a computer screen" over the past decade.

Their tax renewal is about to fail on 06/27/26. The sheriff himself and parish are tone deaf and are going to pay for it dearly.

The odd aspect about this is the Coroner is now next in line should Smith have to leave office. The same coroner that had a recall petition a year ago for doing something with minor children. I don’t remember the specifics on the allegations but it was definitely a movement in St Tammany that ultimately failed.

I am 1,000% on board with Smith being forced out of office as a result of his actions at KY steakhouse.

my guess. You just know smith is doing loyalty tests right now and circling the wagons. Dude didn’t want any part of that and I don’t blame him
