I had my cell turned off and left it like that for about 6 months. The first month or two was rough, but very peaceful after that.

On my own at 19; 26 year old truck’s timing chain wore through the water jacket and leaked all the coolant out anytime I ran it. Couldn’t afford to fix it so I had to drive to work before the sun came up or after it went down so it wouldn’t overheat. Had a spot I’d stop halfway to work to shut it off and let it cool off. Had to do that for like 4 months before I could afford the junkyard parts to fix it. I laugh about it now but at the time it was extremely embarrassing
Married; wife had to have emergency surgery after an accident. Like 2 months later I had to have my appendix out. We were married less than 6 months and I can’t count how many times we had less than $30 in our bank account with a whole week until pay day. Tough times but made our love strong.
We’re in a great place now and feel very blessed for those times to show what’s important. We never asked for help from anyone nor made it anyone else’s problem.

I had $4 to last 4 days. I had 1 lb. of ground beef, 1 lb. of rice and a can of cream of mushroom soup. I used 2 beef bullion cubes in some water and made meatballs, rice, and gravy.
I used the $4 for a pack of smokes and 2 6-packs of Schafer Light beer. Calling that crap beer is a stretch.

I’ve been broke many, many times. I’ve never been poor, though. There’s an important difference.
“Broke” means you were stupid and spent all the money you had in your account.
“Poor” means you have no money, no assets, and nothing to fall back on.
Thankfully I’ve never been poor.

In college I was hammered and broke and wanted some cigs so I scrounged up all the change I had and walked to circle k. I walked in and asked for the cheapest pack they had and was still 4 cents short. I went outside and found 4 pennies in the parking lot so I could rip heaters.

In college, I’d always take a dump in either Hatcher Hall or Johnston Hall before heading home for the day. My diet had me going at least twice a day back then, and it wasn’t pretty. I decided to use a key to pop open the TP dispenser and shove a giant roll in my backpack. It’d last a week or so.

Digging through seat cushions for change for gas. Driving slow and low with a stick shift to conserve fuel, never getting rpms up. Multiple days of that until payday, many times of wondering how much further it may go. As I recall, always made it somehow.
Pb&j sammiches, ramen noodles and “ice cold” tap water for meals.
Did suck but obviously I survived
Eta: Yes, I was the guy who put 75 cents of fuel in. Bite me

Brokest, ever? shite I remember one point in college, my bank would let you overdraw your account up to like 300 dollars. I took out the 300 when I had around 10 dollars. The overdraft charge made it about negative 325 dollars. I just abandoned that account and opened a new one at a different bank and paid the original bank back about six years later.
So to answer your question the brokest I've ever been was about $-325 or so.
