Don’t blame the people of SELA for what the media chooses to show
Well, people are getting upset over the bickering, or else I was going to say this. Don't want to start a war but this is exactly what gets NOLA so much attention every time there is a storm that is within 100 miles of it.

This. Family in LC having to deal with a contractor from BR that took the deposit and first installment to start work, didn’t do any work, then pulled out and said they would let them know how much of the money they would give back. Offered 3/4 of money back paid out over installents.
MFs need to go to jail

I just think it's always going to be about the visual.
Nationally people are always going to react to the shock and awe. Helicopter shots of houses with water up to the roof line (Katrina and Harvey) or completely wiped away beach town (Michael, Andrew, etc.). 100,000 people needing roof replacements just isn't going to get the same reaction if the roofs aren't blown off and down the street with insulation strewn about everywhere.
Outside of SWLA I'm guessing most people, to the extent they remember Laura, remember the building with the windows blown out.

Not sure if already posted -
Plaquemines Parish is reporting levee failure near HWY 23 in Alliance. Residents were urged to evacuate. People were also urged to flee the Braithwaite area after a levee overtopped.

The Hurricane Laura thread went 815 pages. It was about 780 pages the morning after the storm.
The Hurricane Ida thread is 942 pages the morning after the storm.
This scientific research proves why SELA gets more attention and money.

I would guess it won't take too long for Baton Rouge to get power back. The linemen coming from the west will have to stop somewhere.

Any word on MSY airport?
Saw this on Twitter. It's not a verified account, but I didn't see anything that was for MSY.

Update: MSY is currently conducting a thorough damage assessment. We expect all flights to be cancelled today, but recommend that passengers check directly with their airlines for the most accurate flight info. More details to be provided when they become available.
That was one hour ago...

Looting has begun
That didn’t take long.
I’m ok with people looting food and water and other basic supplies for survival in these events.
If you’re looting TVs and shite you should be shot

Haven't been able to get in touch with anyone in central lafourche today, was able to last night.
I imagine dead phone batteries and down/overloaded networks are playing a part.
Same, we have family that stayed that would have been a couple miles west of the eyewall when it went over Raceland on 308 & 1. At last word yesterday they were taking shelter in closets and had sustained some roof damage but still weren't able to get out for a full assessment. That's last word we got, unable to reach anyone this morning for an update. I'm assuming service is down in the area.

For those coming from Texas on 10, state troopers are all over the place from the state line to Jennings.
Leave it to LA to line its own pockets from residents trying to come back from evacuation.
I can't speak for the other spelling and grammar police, but I will be standing down today.

Someone from MC just told me that they heard the GI people are ok. The island is trashed, but the people are ok. I can’t confirm accuracy but this person is a serious type.

I got a good laugh in the clips of Lockport video when the guy gets out to clear branches from the road then the storm blows more in the way
I caught that too. I'm not sure wtf he was trying to prove. The shite he was moving looked small enough that it could've been driven over. Then right after he moves it, a limb about 5 times the size of the shite he just moved blew in.
Not sure where these people get the common sense that getting out of the car into the environment where large tree limbs are flying around is the right move.
