An #Ida dropsonde just measured 936 mb with 14 kt of wind— holy $&@! I feel nauseous watching this unfold.
Lower pressure than Laura
What does this mean exactly? I get the low pressure, but what does the wind have to do with that statement?

It’s going to be shocking, unfortunately. Will be used as a date of reference from now on. Godspeed, my heart hurts for you.

The only good news is that its finally about to hit land.
Imagine what another day over water would do.

Stronger pressure gradient means stronger wind. At this point the wind is the wind. 155 isn’t going to be a hell of a lot of difference than 145. For whatever it comes on shore as.

Actually it would probably get weaker like Katrina.. she is almost the perfect storm so far.. if she keeps building, it will be one of the all timers.. unfortunately

Exactly. The lives of your family and yourself are far more important. As horrific as it would be for anyone to see their house damaged or lost, it can be replaced.

Why? Those specific elected officials have been fricking things up for quite a long time now.

It’s interesting to watch radar in real time
A strong band is going over the Slidell site and the beam can’t get through as well so it looks like the hurricane is deteriorating some. Which can’t be farther from the truth. It’s just the beam can’t get to it as well.

Yeah I get that the lower pressure means stronger storm.. but is there any relevance to the 14kt winds? Meaning if it said, 100 kts would that be better or worse?
It was almost like he was saying a pressure that low in the eye is really bad.. but I don’t know why pressure that low with no winds would mean anything.. if your answer is the same.. no reason to reply again.

This is a good example. Most everything in Cameron was leveled near the beach. Further inland incredible destruction.
I’ve never been down Highway 1 to the gulf or to Houma and those areas. Looking at Google maps and street views etc etc just to get an idea of the infrastructure and homes…..and based off what I’ve seen in places that look exactly like that…
None of those places have a prayer. They’re as good as gone.

Praying for all in the danger zone of this massive storm. I know there are hotels in the Jackson MS area with vacancies. If anyone needs a place to ride this out, let me know, I can help a few families.

40 people riding out in Grand Isle. Pray they are in masonry built structures at least 18’ off ground or will be very difficult to survive.
Radar eye jogging more east, Barataria Bay going to shove into lower Jefferson could be many W Bank levee overtoppings.

Staying here in Gonzales with family. Have never gone through something like this. Gustav probably the worst storm I’ve ever gone through. Never been real nervous about a storm until now though. Knots in my stomach and my heart is hurting for the place that I really do love. I know we talk about how shitty our state and government is, but I really do love my state and this could be so devastating for it, that I don’t know if it’d be able to recover from something that might be coming.
This will be the worst storm we’ve ever seen in AP, but I’m not sure if it will really be anything too catastrophic for most of us. Flooding could be an issue and the chance of unpredictable tornados and crazy winds is of course possible. I don’t know though. I don’t know what to expect because I don’t want to underestimate it but I guess I already am by being here. I’m just really worried for anyone south of the river and the entire NOLA area. It’s going to be life changing for them.

Anyone on I-10 going East or West at the moment?
Help reassure some of the lurkers that there is still a small window to get going now.

This is what I’m talking about. A little glitch in the system until that rain band moves out of Slidell.

Great decision, I stayed for Laura a bit north of Lake Charles because I have a whole house generator. Now my whole family has PTSD and gets severely stressed when a hurricane enters the gulf. If you, can, leave!!! The next several hours will be unbelievable if the windspeed estimates are correct!!!

Google maps shows I-10 all clear until just west of LC. I-49 to Shreveport all clear.
