So 5 in 16 years not all of them causing life altering affects to the same people each time.

I mean have you heard of wild fires which are yearly in many locations? Tornadoes which are monthly in some areas?

Snow and ice storms.

There is no safe place from everything pretty much anywhere in the country.

can’t fricking believe they had no plane recon all fucjing day and now in the middle of the night we get to all watch how strong and powerful this stupid hurricane is.

My brother in law was set to fly it today, I’m gonna check with him tomorrow.
There is something unnatural about this storm. I don’t know what but I think we are all about to go through something like we never have. They will say it’s because not everyone has been through a cat 3 or 4 storm. Look at the storm in the pacific, same path. Just what if these 2 hurricane are from some outer atmosphere event. I don’t know what but do you think they would really tell us the truth?

I think it shows the "sweet spot" of the age of most posters on the OT Lounge. Unlike during Katrina/Rita, more of us now have older parents that need us to lead them to making the right choices and more valuable possessions (including our own families) to take care of.

It was different 16 years ago, when some of us only had to lookout for ourselves.

sorry, but I’m not convinced this is hitting Grand Isle. Unless it takes a hard NW turn soon, that looks like western Terrebonne to me.
Looking at radar I agree, but I will defer to those more knowledgeable cause I know the radar beam is way up there at this distance.

It's obvious to anyone that this is due to the weather seeding system. It causes hurricane eyes to recycle.

Don’t know if it’s be said or not but

NHC will be doing hourly updates from now until landfall. Landfall is in about 12 hours from now. High Tide for Nola is 1pm tomorrow.

Name one region of the country that doesn’t have some sort of stuff like this

Missoula, MT doesn't. Apart from occasional dangerous cold temps, maybe being snowed in (has never happened to me in 16 years), and an extremely rare avalanche (we had some elderly neighbors die a couple blocks over when a kid snowboarded illegally on Mt. Jumbo), we're just waiting until the caldera blows. That'll be the end of life as we all know it.

Eta: smoke (largely from west coast) was a little tough here for about a month this summer. But no actual fire risk in Missoula.

Full disclosure: born within a few miles of the Gulf, lived south of I-10 most of my life (FL, LA, TX). Love the region and the people. But this is the 6th straight year with a major disaster somewhere on the northern Gulf Coast (2016-BR floods, 2017-Harvey, 2018-Michael, 2019-Imelda, 2020-Laura). It used to happen periodically (and has always happened historically) but now it seems almost annually. That coupled with increased temps (what’s the LOW in Nola tonight?) makes it harder to live there. I HATED moving to Alabama, football aside. And we had a F2 tornado roll through town in March. But we could go 50 feet in either direction and get cel service, food, and water. Hurricanes are a different animal. I bet a lot of people in Houma and Thibodaux won’t rebuild, just like half of Chalmette moved to Picayune after Katrina (and improved the food considerably!) I really feel for the people in Lake Chuck, still not recovered, and by no means out of the woods yet for this year. It’s a tough choice. But maybe not as tough as you think.
