I know someone fishing in Dulac today, no idea what he’s thinking

i bet he smashed em out there. Right before the storm is some of the finest fishing opportunities available. Hope he gets out in time though

So 30 miles of calmer weather. How thick is the eyewall on the NE and east side?

I got the same text and I’m in LCH. It doesn’t mean anything.

As of last night, I had the thinking I was gonna ride this out at home in Lockport. I woke up this morning with a change of heart. Packed up myself and my mother this morning. Currently heading to Alabama.

I've asked this multiple times and haven't gotten an answer...When the 4 pm updates come out, which time of the model runs are they using? The 12Z which were run at 7am today or the 18z which were run at 1pm today? It was said earlier that the models take hours to run and then the NHC has to do more work with them to make a prediction. Thanks.

They’ll use the most recent data they have. They won’t have the 18z major models in time to help at 4.

Is there a good book or online resource I could use to learn a little bit about hurricane tracking? I don't need a meteorology degree, just want to know a little bit more

Everything from lack of evacuation to lack of recon for this hurricane is baffling. It's like Covid has killed any ability for us to focus on anything else as a society. We're gonna have a cat 4 come onshore in SE Louisiana and the preparation for it almost feels laid back.

Depending where you are I wouldn't look too far into that. I live in LC and got the same thing. We probably won't even lose power.

After Laura it looked/seemed like it would be months until I had power back where I was simply due to the pure destruction. Two weeks later, had power.

Zooming out on WV imagery, it's clear why forecasts for #Ida are so aggressive on intensity even despite some stumbles earlier today.

The storm has dual outflow channels (NW/SE), perfect high pressure overhead, and is well-separated from dry air farther SW. Plus very warm water. LINK

Again, I can't get the gif to download right.

Is the dewpoint information solid, at least?

Planning to head to Houston from Destrehan within the next two hours. Better to take 90 to Lafayette then taking I-10 through BR?
