Don't sleep on the inland rainfall threat. 10 to 12 inches will create problems. Hopefully the usgs river forecasts will update soon using forecast rainfall.

Exactly. This is going to be a recipe for disaster for widespread tree damage. Gustav was horrible for trees in BR, this could potentially be worse

Are the recon guys finding winds higher than anticipated at this point?

Yes. Per last discussion, they anticipated 60mph winds early this afternoon, not now.

Don't take that to mean that the storm will hit 15mph stronger than the current forecast though.

My wife and 3 yr old are either going to family in Houston or Dallas, when would y’all expect the evac situation to get out of control? They would be leaving from BR

I would leave from BR today. No reason to wait honestly at this point, BR is going to get some decent impact it appears.

If Nola is told to evacuate the roads will be gridlock, Katrina was insane in Baton Rouge for a couple of days.

hurricanes or other acts of nature I thought it did not matter. Our neighbors tree fell on our carport during Gustav and our insurance had to cover it.

From what I understand it doesn’t matter whose property the tree is rooted on if it naturally falls across the property line onto your house then it is on your insurance. But I could be wrong

Gustav, the eyewall broke up and BR just got a piece of it. For this one if the eyewall stays intact, serious eyewall action for BR. A more structured storm by the time it gets to BR compared to Gustav, and most likely, higher winds.

You have foster dogs, right?
Got one right now that is about to do me in

Local shelter is asking for emergency fosters, it’s only going to be worse after the storm

Put a collar on your pets & write you name, address & phone # on the inside

Pack up food & meds in case you have to evacuate quickly
