Looks like weather channel no longer has it making landfall in Florida. And it was a little hard to see but it looked like the tracts they showed has it getting very close to both the GA and SC costs now too

We likely will. Just pissed because my terrified arse brother in law was supposed to host us (10 miles inland) and he is leaving, so we now have to go all the way to Tallahassee.

I don't like your link. It puts the storm way further west and gets the eye too close to the Hangit household

Yeah I live in Madeira Beach. I don't like that forecast one bit.

Very strong language coming out of the forecast offices in Florida the last couple of days. Hopefully, people are taking the advice of local officials seriously.

Jax folks:

Based on the 11am update we are not bugging out. That may change on the next update.

We are about 12-14 miles inland.

I lived in Ft Myers when Charlie hit. They said the same thing. Thing took a hard right turn and in less than 4 hours it was in our doorstep. Until it scoots by all hands on deck and at the ready at the Zealot house.

Why are there so many people playing on Juno Beach behind the weather channel guy?

. . . yet. A number of models predict that it will cross Florida into the Gulf of Mexico next week.

Any video, streaming or pictures from the Bahamas?

I'd imagine the death toll there is going to be high and the destruction is catastrophic

What criteria are you using to make the call?

Y'all stay safe.

Yeah no I agree, Florida is in a lot of trouble with this hurricane. Just sharing what the updated weather channel model is showing. They are saying it's going to "hug the coast"

It surprises me that there is that much action on the west side of it. In my head I always think that it is the east that is where most of the danger is.

Because the storm is 18 hours from hitting there. They are either staying, or probably just going a few miles inland to evac.

The east is generally worse, especially when talking about the eyewall. Not everything that is on the east side of Matthew is visible in the image because it is out of the reach of the radar beam.

Wish I could remember which one it was that forecasters totally "missed" ... I remember Rush Limbaugh talking about it on his show and how people weren't prepared at all. No blame on the forecasters .. just everyones GOT to be ready and up on it and be personally responsible.

I can't even remember how long ago this was .. there have been many since!

Mother Nature doesn't care where the forecasters predict she'll take things ... she just goes where she wants!

I'm actually hearing the opposite so far, but we'll see how Nassau fares. Exuma did well, as did Cat, Eleuthera, and Acklins/Crooked. Not a whole lot of structural damage on any of those islands, and mostly just intentional power shutdowns. These islands all had to update their infrastructure after Irene, so most of the stuff is pretty new and stronger than the old shite they used to have.

I haven't heard anything from Long Island though, and I think things might change after we see what happens in Nassau and Andros.

This is as close to live updates as I've found: LINK

There are some photos and videos too. Most recent quote:

quote:

11am: THERE are reports that Royal Bahamas Defence Force personnel have been called to Smith's Motel on East Street South, where the entire roof has been blown off and guests require evacuation.

eta: I also have contact with a friend in Eleuthera and in Nassau. I haven't talked to Nassau yet this morning, but I got the above info from friend in Eleuthera.

There is some impressive convection with the eyewall. Especially considering how far that is from the radar site.
