I’m sure this has been mentioned but as soon as autonomous cars become available, this will not be as big of an issue. Cops will have to find money somewhere else.

I certainly am. I don't want to live in a police state any more than anyone else, but when people are just flat out irresponsible to the tune of killing 10K per year, ignoring that irresponsibility certainly isn't the answer.
I am a freedom-loving American, and I fully understand the government control aspect of this. I don't like these kinds of laws any more than anyone else, but the worst part of it is the fact that laws like this are necessary. It shouldn't take a harsh law to get people to recognize that when you do A, and then do B, the results are thousands of dead people who had nothing to do with your bullshite.
There is not a living soul of adult age in this country that can honestly say that they aren't aware that thousands are maimed and killed by drunk drivers every year. Yet the drunk driving continues.
People who put their good time ahead of the health and safety of their fellow man are sociopaths, in my opinion. Their rights end at the tip of their fellow man's nose, yet they kill thousands every year.
It's not like we're talking about a necessary evil like weapons to defend ourselves and our loved ones, we're talking about the desire to catch a buzz, free of the responsibility of finding a way home that doesn't endanger their lives, or the lives of anyone else.

Illinois is all over this, they will do anything to try to bring in income.
Gay marriage, they didnt give a frick about gay marriage, it was for the licenses and the fees they could get.
Legal mary j they didnt do it because they care about mary j rights, those fricks needed $$$$$.
I woouldn't doubt if in the future they sell their residents SS and DOB to hackers for cash. And when they vote in another Useless Democrat as Governor, they will go even more broke, and we will be paying for those idiots.

And yet you think changing the limit to .05 would somehow change this fact? In a country of 300 million people, it is a statistical inevitability that people will partake in every kind of dangerous behavior under the sun many of which endanger the lives of their fellow man. You can either legislate yourself into a well furnished prison as you propose or accept that there is some risk involved in living in a free society.

What's weird is how rarely the drunk driver gets killed. Seems like it's almost always the person they hit. I've heard part of it is that the other person is relaxed so they don't snap their neck.

It's never enough, they're always thinking of new ways to tax us. You'll notice they never talk about being more efficient with the money they already get now.

Maybe it’s time to start using illegal drugs. That would screw up the money grab that is obvious about this new law. It has nothing to do with public safety

All, or most of which are already against the law. Now, take that a step further and tell me how many of those result in 10K dead innocents, not to mention the thousands hurt and maimed, or the billions in property damage?

First of all, this isn't a free society, no matter ho much we like to lie to ourselves. Accepting that risk is a given, but mitigating those risks, especially when they are totally, completely unnecessary, are what responsible people do. Nobody is saying you can't drink, or even get drunk. Just don't drive if you do.

My name is Troy, nice to meet you. I understand the slippery slope aspect here, and eliminating every drunk driving death would be wonderful, but impossible. We could be talking about thousands per year, not just one. For the price of limiting those who anide by the law to 2 or 3 drinks, rather than 4 or 5.

Yes, New Years Eve in a small town in Alaska after leaving a party. We were driving slowly (it was snowy, fresh snow on the road) so the officer stopped us.
He quickly ascertained that we were 2 young women on their way home from a church event, no drinks at all,, with a sleeping child securely in the backseat.
We were not offended at all and thanked him for being out there checking on everyone.

I think we should ban cell phones. Completely. Think about how many thousands of lives would be saved (arguably equivalent or possibly more then those killed in drunk driving incidents) if we did. Think of the children. If it saves even one kid it's worth it. And is your argument really we don't live in a free society anyway so frick it? As an earlier poster mentioned the margin error on those breathylzers can be +.05 so this is retarded from a mathematical perspective too.

I don't think phones should work in a running vehicle. If they get serious about the carnage from phones and cars, it should be done. If you get caught circumventing it, they take your phone, and your car. I'm fine with it.
Are you wanting to do something about phones in cars, or are you trying to make the case that you shouldn't get a speeding ticket, because the guy in front of you was speeding too?
