WTF? Alaska is off the charts, California would be number one in the lower 48 but it doesn't come close to what Alaska has to offer.

Washington and Oregon would be Tier 1. Probably Maine as well. I'd put Idaho and Utah slightly below due to the lack of coastline.

I think LA hunting and fishing alone puts it in at least tier 3. Sportsman's Paradise.
For family activities there isn't much, our best hiking (Tunica/Clark's Creek) is actually just across the Mississippi border. You can always go on a swamp tour I guess.

What makes Louisiana equal to Maine and Michigan? Those two states have incredible outdoors.
Alabama is pretty underrated when it comes to outdoors. Lots of variety. Alabama's beaches are the cleanest in the country, beautiful white sand and clear water. Mountains up north. National Forests and great state parks.

Oregon and Washington definitely belong in tier 1. Utah doesn't have a coastline, but I personally believe it belongs there if Colorado qualifies.

Can anyone explain to me why Florida is so high on the list? Sure, Florida has two National Parks and lots of great fishing/boating/beaches/other watersport activities. But what else? Not a lot of mountainous terrain, no seasons, not well known for its hunting (other than Burmese Pythons). I don't get it.
Maine should be much higher. Lots of coastline. Over 2.5 million people visit Acadian NP every year. There is a lot of nice fishing (both coastal and inland) and historically important in the flyfishing world. Plenty of game to shoot, including moose. The AT ends at Katahdin. Serviceable ski resorts. A well-established snowmobiling and ATV trail system. A small population density than Colorado.
In my mind, there is no way that Florida should be higher than Maine on a list of Outdoor Activities.

Awesome deer/moose hunting, skiing, lake and stream fishing, hiking (App trail and Long Trail), mountain biking (trails & downhill)...

I agree. I was puzzled as to why Mich was so high and Atlantic states with coasts and mountains were not on there.
I added Tenn because it is landlocked like Mich yet offers more diverse activity.
OP would later ask about why mountains are better or something like that. Quite simple- mountains offer more diversity even if rock climbing, jumping or mtn biking is not your thing.
Plus the quality of rafting and hiking are better.
I think the OP was overstating the value of Mich's outdoor activities.

IMO Arky is fantastic.
Several mountain segments, great rivers, several large lakes, great fall color, bears, just enough winter weather to be interesting.
